    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    We are seeking a highly motivated high school student to join our Cyber Security team as an intern.

    The intern will work with our experienced Cyber Security professionals and gain hands-on experience in protecting the organization's information systems and data from cyber-attacks.

    This is an unpaid internship designed to provide the intern with real-world experience in Cyber Security.
    The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.


    ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES:

    • Must be a high school student in grade 11 or 12, at least 17 years of age, and available to work 20 hours a week
    • Must be available to work on-site for the duration of the internship, with the possibility of remote work as appropriate.
    • Must be a US citizen

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Help monitor security systems and tools for any signs of suspicious activity or potential threats. This might involve reviewing logs, alerts, and reports.2.

    Assist in conducting vulnerability scans on network systems and applications to identify potential weaknesses that could be exploited by attackers.3.

    Help prepare for and participate in security audits and assessments to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.4.

    Assist in creating and delivering security awareness training materials to educate staff and students about cybersecurity best practices and potential threats.5.

    Aid in responding to security incidents by documenting details, assisting with containment efforts, and participating in post-incident analysis to identify lessons learned.6.

    Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques by researching online sources, attending webinars, and reading industry publications.7.

    Understand advanced attack capabilities, characteristics, and define signatures for detecting8. Assist in creating and updating documentation such as incident response plans, disaster recovery plans, and security configuration guides.9. Help facilitate the Department's Cyber Security Awareness Training program.10. Assist in conducting Cyber Security assessment and risk management activities.11. Perform other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
    Education – High School student with previous participation in a Cyber Patriot Program preferred.
    Experience – None.

    Regulatory knowledge – Must possess a working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislations, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

    Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

    Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.

    Presentation/Communication Skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations and/or communications to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.

    Research and Comprehension – Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

    Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.

    Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems.

    Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

    Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.
