JOB SUMMARY : Construction Accountants play a crucial role in our multifamily real estate company, managing financial aspects related to construction projects and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Management:

Preparing monthly reporting package including preparation of the month-end workbook.
Monthly preparation of Operating Company financial statements.
Reconciling all bank accounts and credit card statements monthly.
Creating monthly construction draws during the value-add phase of the business plan.
Communicating routinely with lenders and equity groups to ensure timely funding of draw requests.
Implementing and maintaining a robust cost accounting system for construction projects.
Analyzing and tracking project costs, identifying variances, and recommending corrective actions.
Conducting regular audits of construction project finances to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
Providing weekly budget updates to leadership to ensure projects are on time and under budget.
Conducting cost analysis and budget forecasting for ongoing and upcoming construction projects.
Collaborating with project managers and construction teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of construction costs.
Coordinating with Construction, Operations and Asset Management teams to ensure work is completed satisfactorily before payments are issued to vendors.
Ensuring all lien releases are completed accurately and timely.
Coordinating with internal and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and support during audits.
Collaborating with procurement teams to ensure accurate recording of material and labor costs.
Conducting regular audits of construction project costs to identify discrepancies in billed rates vs. negotiated rates and ensure accuracy.
Coordinating with internal and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and support during audits.
Following accounts payable for our internal process for all payables
Maintaining organized and accurate financial records related to construction projects.
Utilizing accounting software and systems to facilitate efficient record-keeping.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Required: Construction and/or real estate experience.
Preferred: CPA designation.

Skill Requirements:

Strong proficiency in construction accounting principles and practices.
Experience with construction management software and financial systems.
Analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
