    Erie Neighborhood House has provided the most comprehensive support immigrant and low-income families in Chicago need to thrive and has constantly evolved to meet their needs. Today, Erie House is a modern social service nonprofit with programming and resources for children and youth, mental health and community wellness, adult education and training, legal services, and more.     Reporting to the Workforce Development Program Manager, the Career Pathway Instructor provides contextualized classroom instruction that includes Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, use of Mathematics, and Supply Chain Management Training to participants. The instructor also guides students on their options for advanced training; and assists with the development of the curriculum, recruitment, enrollment, testing, retention, and transfer to advanced training.

    The full-time career pathways instructor will be a position in partnership with the Workforce Development program directly impacting job seekers in the Chicagoland area and its surrounding suburbs.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Instructional:

    • Provide classroom instruction for adult learners that integrates Reading, Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Math, and Supply Chain Management Training to prepare students for entry into the vocational program, community college, or career track in healthcare.
    • Administer and score Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) tests or CASAS GOALS to participants to track success.
    • Create, update, and instruct utilizing a curriculum that reflects ABE/ASE content standards using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques that meet the learning needs of the adult learners
    • Adapt and contextualize lesson plans for a multilevel classroom, providing individualized support for participants if needed.
    • Incorporate digital literacy, college and career readiness, Career Foundations, and/or industry-specific content into the curriculum.
    • Advise and counsel students regarding course requirements, expectations, and progress throughout the program, creating an Individualized Education Plan to help students track their goal completion in the program.
    • Create a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to think and act creatively
    • Document student attendance and report inconsistencies to the Program Manager and conduct consistent follow-ups with participants to drive retention and engagement.
    • Attending professional development events in compliance with ICCB guidelines and adapting teaching practices based on changes in educational pedagogy.

    Program Support

    • Participate in regular Erie Neighborhood House department, curriculum meetings, task forces or committees
    • Assists with student outreach, orientation, testing assessment, screening, registration, retention, and follow-up.
    • Assists with PTS program planning, coordination, and delivery of services to ensure that program outcomes are achieved.
    • Provide relevant information (including intakes, exams, daily attendance sheets, etc.) to the Program Manager to ensure that all data is reported timely and consistently externally and internally.
    • Provide CPR and BLS training certification to participants once per quarter
    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members to ensure students are receiving the appropriate support while in the program.
    • Coordinate with partner training organizations to ensure successful transfer of students to vocational training.
    • Network and help build partnerships with community organizations and institutions.
    • Work with referral partners, community partners, Chicago Public Schools, and other community organizations to recruit participants.
    • Attend recruitment events monthly, such as college and resource fairs, to advertise programs offered by the Workforce Department.
    • Refer participants to other services within the agency and track the use of these services.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Health Care, or related field and a minimum of two years' experience in adult education (ABE or ESL) preferred.
    • Ability to work with a diverse group of adult learners.
    • Bilingual – Spanish and English required.
    • Commitment to social justice and sensitivity to the assets and challenges of a diverse group of adult learners.
    • Flexible Schedule to work between the West Town site (1347 W Erie Street) and Little Village (4225 W 25TH Street.)
    • Knowledge and understanding of the contextualized curriculum development and general education principles of instruction and classroom management.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret student test scores (TABE) and reports.
    • Ability to develop individual and classroom learning objectives and assess students' progress towards them.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, on-line systems, and other software
    • Strong leadership skills that promote innovation, growth, and retention
    • Skilled in project management, the ability to meet deadlines, and solve problems creatively.
    • Ability to develop rapport with individuals across multi-cultural backgrounds and with faculty, staff, and members of the community
