Argonne National Laboratory cultivates the next generation of scientists and engineers by connecting with over 40,000 youth and families through our Outreach programs, inspiring 4,400 middle and high school students in our on-site Learning Center and providing internships and on-site programming to over 1,200 university students each year.


Educational activities for high school and college students are facilitated by the University Programs and Partnerships and STEM Education Learning Teams within Argonne.

Their mission is to connect world-class research to tomorrow's STEM problem solvers.

Essential to this is providing learning experiences for these students that enhance their knowledge, skills and career awareness to prepare them for a rapidly changing world.


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to lead our Pathways in Physical Sciences Summer School and support college students in building their lab skills and bolstering their professional networks and confidence in STEM.


In this role you will:


  • Provide pedagogical expertise in line with the objectives of the program.
  • Act as a lead facilitator and support other scientific instructors during the entirety of the summer school.
  • Prepare student and instructor materials.
  • Assist with coordinating and leading various committee meetings.
  • Develop and present final report to program sponsors.

Position Requirements

We expect you to have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in science education or a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) field with a strong foundation in physical sciences.
  • Previous experience in curriculum development, preferably in the field of physical science and/or materials science.
  • Strong knowledge of data science concepts, tools, and techniques, with proficiency in the Python programming language.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students form underrepresented groups in STEM.
  • Ability to manage complex work and achieve specified goals under time and resource constraints
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and phenomenabased learning and their applicability to curriculum writing
  • Familiarity with autonomous labs a plus

Other:


  • This is a hybrid position with the primary work occurring at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL.
  • While this is a part time position, hours per week are dependent on program needs with 40 hours/week being required during the 4week summer school.
  • This position may require you to participate in occasional weekend programming.
