    Description

Job Title: Senior Silicon Photonics Engineer

Location: Austin, TX Type: Full Time

About Neurophos: Neurophos has spent 3 years in stealth R&D conceiving, modeling, & refining a technology platform that has the potential to '100x' key performance metrics in neural network computing, including in the exploding field of Large Language Models. Leveraging new physics field of metamaterials (which its founders are pioneers in), Neurophos is able to create spatial light modulators of unprecedented speed, density, and power-efficiency. Combing these Metasurfaces with more conventional optoelectronics unlocks a compute- in-memory optical computer that dramatically outperforms anything that exists today; and in fact, anything that trends project to exist for decades to come.

With the raising of the company's first non-stealth funding round, Neurophos is growing its team and beginning to realize it's Optical Computing Platform.

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Silicon Photonics Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in the design and optimization of novel silicon photonic devices and integrated circuits for the Neurophos hardware platform. They will take part in all aspects of the development process from initial conception to design, layout, and testing of silicon photonic systems and subsystems. This entails collaborating with multifunctional engineering teams for seamless integration of the silicon photonic devices with our other technologies as well as interfacing with our fabrication partners to ensure manufacturability and delivery. An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field is required for this position as well as 5 years industrial experience in silicon photonic design and optimization

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Silicon Photonic Design: Design, and layout passive and active silicon photonic components using industry-standard software tools (e.g., Lumerical, Ansys, etc.).
    2. Simulation and Optimization: Perform comprehensive simulations to analyze device performance and optimize silicon photonic designs.
    3. Characterization and Testing: engage in and contribute to the development of testing protocols and characterization of photonic devices
    4. High-Level Hardware Design: Engage in high-level hardware design activities, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that meet project requirements and ensure integration with the Neurophos platform.
    5. Fabrication Development: Collaborate with process engineers and fabrication partners to ensure successful manufacturability.
    6. Research and Development: Stay updated on the latest advancements in silicon photonics, and related technologies, and contribute to ongoing research and development efforts within the company.

    Qualifications:

    1. Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
    2. Extensive experience in silicon photonics from conception to tape-out and packaging.
    3. Solid understanding of silicon photonics principles, including waveguides, modulators, detectors, and passive components.
    4. Proficiency with industry-standard design tools (Lumerical, Ansys tools such as Virtuoso, etc.), software development, and simulation, using languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
    5. Superb analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of innovative solutions to complex challenges.
    6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams.

    What We Offer:

    • A key role in a cutting-edge AI hardware startup.
    • A collaborative and innovative work environment.
    • Competitive compensation.
    • Opportunities for personal and professional growth in a dynamic industry.
