Position Description:
Responsible for processing payroll in an accurate and timely manner for the organization, as well as maintaining complete and thorough supporting documentation for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its affiliated entities. Assists with training and mentoring less experienced Payroll Specialists. Acts as team lead in absence of Payroll Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepares manual pays, pay cards, and termination checks via check calculation application.
Performs a review of payroll data before and after payroll is transmitted.
Responsible for informing Management of issues that allow them to properly provide financial information to the corporation.
Coordinates with the Human Resources and Information Technology departments to ensure that any major changes that affect payroll are accurately reflected in the payroll system, such as benefit deductions, accrual changes, timekeeping system changes/updates, HRIS updates, tax withholding changes, etc.
Communicates effectively with outside payroll provider, as necessary, to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Researches Team Member and supervisor questions and provides resolution.
Processes and maintains detailed records of all court-ordered wage orders, including child support, garnishments, and tax levies.
Assists with transmitting accurate payrolls - reviewing previews, manual batches, exception reports, etc, as needed to ensure accuracy of payroll.
Assists with coordinating and processing of year-end adjustments in preparation for issuance of W2's.
Ensures all processed transactions are properly documented and approved.
Prepares and maintains supporting documentation for all payroll information entered manually.
Coordinates with Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely capturing of HR information into the payroll system.
Maintains payroll related reports, having a pre-established format where the data is easily accessible.
Prepares special reports and performs special projects as requested by Management in a timely and accurate manner.
Assists with the training and mentoring of less experienced Payroll Specialists. Reviews work of new Specialists for accuracy during training period.
Handles escalated issues in Payroll area and functions as team lead in the absence of the Payroll Manager.
Responsible for keeping up-to-date on payroll and benefits tax laws and regulations that affect the organization.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

High School diploma or GED required.
Must have 3-5 years' experience processing payroll for 1,500+ employees.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of payroll regulations and wage & hour laws.
Experience using MS Office Suite, including strong Excel skills using VLOOKUP, formulas, and pivot tables.
Experience using payroll and timekeeping related software such as ADP, and Kronos, preferred.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
Ability to speak and read English proficiently.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position.
