    Job DescriptionThe Simulation Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the simulation center at the College of Health Solutions (CHS).

    With a focus on virtual reality learning, this includes the preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation of all simulation equipment/supplies and collaborating with faculty to design, plan, implement and schedule simulation activities.

    This position also monitors center usage and coordinates space and administrative resources with the Nursing simulation center to cultivate inter-professional learning experiences.

    This position ensures adherence to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes and current simulation best practice and safety measures.

    This position will also work with the Director of Simulation and Technology and the VR Simulation Laboratory leadership team to support emerging innovations in the fields of education, healthcare, and technology.

    The Simulation Laboratory Operations Manager position is a 12-month, full-time placement. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required.

    Working EnvironmentActivities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (85%); frequently required to stand and walk to other areas of the hospital (15%).Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds without assistance.

    Use office equipment, i.e. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculator.
    Supervise staff.
    Ability to clearly communicate.
    Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolution of conflicts.
    Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time.
    Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.

    Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in a related field and six (6) years of directly related administrative experience which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of directly related administrative experience which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    Our programs are offered at ASU's Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic's campus in north Phoenix.

    Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred; commitment to obtain CHSOS within two years of hire date. Evidence of mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.
    Experience in meeting challenges of adult learners with diverse backgrounds.

    Evidence of interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.

    Experience with providing technical support in networking, computer hardware or software.

    Demonstrated knowledge with PC and Mac platforms with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.


    Demonstrated knowledge of operation of standard audiovisual equipment:
    projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.

    Evidence of organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.

    Experience in creating complex schedules. Experience in maintaining confidentiality of information.
    Ability to quickly learn new technology.
    Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.
    Experience in performing repair and/or construction of laboratory equipment.
    Ability to teach safe operational techniques to all levels of personnel associated with the laboratories.

    • For information about schools, housing child resources, neighborhoods, hospitals, community events, and taxes, visit DutiesOversee and supervise the general operation of the simulation laboratory/center to provide a wide variety of patient simulation experiences.
    Maintain the simulation lab scheduling system and act as the primary point of contact for the CHS simulation space.

    Coordinate simulation center schedule (VR and High Fidelity) in collaboration with Edson College and Coordinate workflow and use of VR and high-fidelity simulation utility across colleges.

    Maintain the simulation center to meet regulation and accreditation standards.

    Oversee the set up and take down of simulation laboratory equipment - allowing for rapid turnover of simulation lab set up as necessary.

    Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals including:
    beds/examination tables, headwalls, patient monitors, and other health care equipment including medication dispensing systems, and vital sign monitors.
    Monitor equipment safety and performance.

    Communicate effectively with manufactures regarding regular maintenance, repair, and updates of simulation software and equipment, including:

    computers, monitors and a variety of clinical medical equipment, audiovisual and debriefing systems, surgical simulators, virtual reality laboratory computers and other equipment.

    Provide recommendations for equipment and supply purchase anticipating future changes in technology. Organize and restock simulation laboratory supplies.

    Collaborate with faculty, simulation education specialists and instructional designers in the development and implementation of simulation experiences for Pre-Medicine, Nursing, and allied health training programs.

    This includes development of simulation components for staff and student competency training.
    Communicate effectively with all simulation laboratory educators, administrative staff and technical support staff.
    Create a positive work environment demonstrating leadership and supervision for simulation center staff including students/TAs to moderate simulations.
    Assist the Director of Simulation and Technology with the center budget.

    Collaborate with the simulation lab leadership committee to resolve issues affecting the simulation department and oversee measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

    Coordinate the collection of data for ongoing research or grant requirements. Maintain learner confidentiality. Network with other lab/simulation coordinators at local/state/national level to develop and utilize best practices.

    Reports directly to the Department Chair and indirectly to the Department Business Operations Manager as well as working closely with the IAFSE Safety Coordinator.
