    Job Summary

    The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.

    The following National NP Certification is required for this role, CPNP-AC. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

    Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

    Department Description

    The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU ) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States.

    The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 16-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, requiring non-invasive mechanical ventilation including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, titration of anticoagulant therapy, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery).

    Required Qualifications

    NP 1

    • Minimum two (2) years of recent experience working as an RN in a Pediatric ICU
    • Master's Degree in Nursing with an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialization
    NP 2
    • Minimum two (2) years of recent experience working as an NP in a Pediatric ICU
    • Master's Degree in Nursing with an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialization

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 years of experience working as an AC-PNP in a level III Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

    License/Certification

    • California Driver's license (CDL) if required for position
    • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work

    • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California
    • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a Nurse Practitioner.
    • Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer)
    • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments
    • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
    • Must hold current AHA PALS as minimum requirement
    • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
    • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1
    UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
