    Advanced degree (PhD or other relevant doctoral degree) in neuroscience at the start of the position.

    Position Summary


    The College of Public Health at the University of Georgia, pursuant to its mission and values, invites applications for an Assistant Research Scientist position specializing in visual neuroscience and public health.

    This position is a 12-month appointment. This position will maintain an appointment in the Institute of Gerontology. This position is contingent upon grant funding. This position will specialize in visual neuroscience and public health. A commitment to educating a diverse student body, including various learning styles, is expected.

    Additional Requirements

    Demonstrated expertise in vision science.

    Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

    Candidates with minimum of four years of training in clinical trials with industry collaborators are preferred.

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies


    Expertise in visual neuroscience studies, psychophysical data collection techniques, optical bench design, strong mentorship skills, a history of publication in sports vision, and evidence of training in good clinical practice and good documentation practice.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    Assist the Director and staff to proactively identify and secure new sponsored program, contract, and grant opportunities.

    Design and submit grant and contract proposals related to vision science, visual neuroscience.

    Coordinate teams of UGA faculty, staff, CITS Fellows and/or non-UGA professionals to support grant and contract proposals.

    Percentage Of Time 50 Duties/Responsibilities

    Serve as PI or Co-I on sponsored grants and contracts in relevant subject areas.

    Maintain working knowledge of budgets during project execution and evolution; understand and effectively implement allowable costs.


    Coordinate teams of UGA faculty, staff, CITS Fellows and/or non-UGA professionals to develop and implement grant and contract-related output, such as written analysis and training events and materials.


    Assist with completion and submission of documentation to sponsors for contract clarification or amendments, including extension, budget modifications, contractual problems, and general reporting requirements.

    Serve as liaison for sponsored programs, contracts, and grants with sponsors and external consultants.

    Percentage Of Time 40 Duties/Responsibilities

    Collaborate with Institute faculty and staff to publish articles, op-eds, blog posts, chapters and/or books in relevant areas.

    Teach courses in vision, neuroscience, and public health if desired.

    Provide expertise to undergraduate and graduate courses as guest lecturer.

    Provide expertise and guidance to students as a professional mentor.

    Support and participate in student experiential learning opportunities.

    Support and participate in public outreach activities of center.

    Assist faculty and staff in fundraising activities.

    Participate in external engagement with communities, healthcare providers, financial stakeholders, and research participants

    Attend and participate in academic conferences and meetings with sponsors

    Participate in sponsor visits to campus, site audits, and study monitoring activities
