The Mobility Tech, reports Clinical Supervisor and coordinates care with therapists of a particular discipline to provide both direct and indirect patient care services.

At this level, the employee is involved with the treatment of patients who require assistance with progressive mobility.

The Mobility tech works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, on 7 Long and 7 East Musculoskeletal unit.

The Mobility Tech actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance and process improvement activities, inservices and staff development activities.


For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.


Department Description

  • The Orthopaedic / Neurospine/ Orthospine unit is a dynamic stateofthe art newly renovated unit providing care for patients undergoing Total Joint Replacement, Neurospine, and Orthospine Surgery.
  • Types of surgery common on this unit include Total Joint Replacement of hips and knees, bone and soft tissue tumor resection, Orthospine and Neurospine surgery. Spinal procedures include laminectomy, discectomy, foraminotomy and spinal fusions.
  • The unit focuses on cutting edge pain management modalities, evidencebased postsurgical interventions and advanced surgical interventions.
  • Nurses support their patients with an interdisciplinary approach. The dynamic patient care team consists of surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, case managers and social workers.

Required Qualifications

  • 1. Possession of a high school diploma.
  • 2. Prior patient care experience in inpatient and/or outpatient rehab or related setting or volunteer experience in rehab or related setting.
  • 3. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • 4. Ability to recognize signs of physiological distress.
  • 5. Possession of current CPR certification.
  • 6. Proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel, and online communication.
  • 7. Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and selfinitiation skills.
  • 8. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in a healthrelated field (ie. Biology, Kinesiology, Physiology)
  • 2. Prior patient care experience in an acute care rehab setting.
  • 3. Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary health provider team.
  • 4. Prior experience working in an academic medical center environment.
  • 5. Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • 6. Knowledge of rehab equipment including assistive devices, ADL equipment, etc.
