Job Summary
The
QBI Partnerships & Development Lead
will be tasked with conceiving and directing the day-to-day functioning of the QBI, managing the outside collaborations, reporting to the supervising bodies (QBI faculty directors and governing bodies) and expanding the visibility of the Institute.
They will be the main initiator and catalyst for bringing outside investments and industry programs to the QBI, thus promoting steady expansion of its programs and research operations.
This position requires discretion and independent judgment as well as working autonomously when problem solving operational issues that are highly sensitive or complex in nature.
The candidate must have the ability to work as a reliable and flexible member of a team handling multiple responsibilities in a very fast paced environment of shifting priorities.
Must be a team player with a "can do" attitude.NOTE:
This is one year Full- Time Contract role.

QBI is an institute at UCSF that seeks transformative results in biomedicine; QBI supports fundamental quantitative research in the biological sciences.
The Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) fosters collaborations across the biomedical and the physical sciences, seeking quantitative methods to address pressing problems in biology and biomedicine.
Motivated by problems of human disease, QBI is committed to investigating fundamental biological mechanisms, because ultimately solutions to many diseases have been revealed by unexpected discoveries in the basic sciences.
Required QualificationsTerminal degree in a related area (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) and/or equivalent experience/training required.
Minimum 6 years of related experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a lead/supervisor/manager.
Academic background and recognized expertise in multiple disciplines of research.
Expert oral and written communication skills; ability to convey complex concepts to multiple audiences including across scientific researchers, industry, the media, and the public.
Expert ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.Expert problem-solving skills and ability to work with dynamic and diverse group of faculty, staff, students, philanthropists, and industry/venture capital partners to achieve results.
Ability to work in ambiguous conditions, and develop relationships, systems and processes to advance organizational goals.Availability to travel 30% both domestically and internationally in service of these relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
Leadership experience in academic or in pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies, consulting firms, or venture capital.
Demonstrated expertise in building collaborations between academia, industry and/or governmental agencies and venture capital.
Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution and administrative, budgetary, human resources, and financial principles and practices.
Experience cultivating relationships with executives and industry partners to create engagement.Managerial experience and proven success in managing a complex research or academic program(s).
Strong fundraising experience.
Strong negotiation skills and verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence/persuade all levels of staff.
Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities.
