    Description

    Laboratory Analyst Position at District Water Treatment Department

    General Statement

    Under general supervision, conducts routine chemical, biological, or microbiological analyses of various materials related to the District's treatment processes. Assists in solving chemical and research issues in bacteriology and develops innovative analysis methods.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assigns, supervises, and reviews work of laboratory technicians; plans work schedules.
    • Leads work groups in assigned projects.
    • Monitors research projects.
    • Trains and mentors Lab Technicians and Assistants.
    • Contributes to Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance Plans.
    • Performs sample analysis following defined procedures, including special samples.
    • Inspects and tests laboratory equipment, recommends maintenance.
    • Calculates and prepares analysis reports.
    • Monitors workflow in the laboratory.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Maintains repair and inventory logs of equipment and supplies.
    • Sets up and handles laboratory apparatus.
    • Prepares calibration standards and reagents.
    • Performs other assigned duties.

    Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Familiarity with metric weights, measures, and scientific terms.
    • Thorough understanding of laboratory safety techniques.
    • Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Quality Control principles.
    • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and instruments.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency in following instructions and performing arithmetic calculations.
    • Aptitude for maintaining accurate records and logs.
    • Capability to coordinate and plan work tasks for a team.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements:

    Completion of senior high school or equivalent, two years of college study in chemistry, biology, or related science field, and three years of experience in a chemical or biological laboratory.

    Substitution:

    Additional college study may substitute for experience, and laboratory work experience may substitute for education.

    Promotional Requirements:

    • Minimum one year of service as a Laboratory or Environmental Research Technician within the District.
    • Civil service status in related classifications.
