    Position Description:
    The University of Louisville is seeking an experienced and collaborative major gift fundraiser to join University Advancement's Development team. The Associate Director, Development (Sr. Director of Development) for the School of Dentistry will play a key role – individually and collectively – in cultivating long-term relationships with donors who have the capacity to make transformative gifts, while leveraging the relationships and vision of university leaders to secure support for strategic university priorities and initiatives. The Sr.

    Director of Development will be a seasoned and exceptional team-oriented fundraising professional with a demonstrated successful track record in securing high dollar philanthropic gifts.

    The Associate Director, Development (Sr. Director of Development) will lead the planning and executing of a comprehensive philanthropic program for the School of Dentistry in coordination with the Assistant Vice President of HSC Development and the Dean of the School of Dentistry.


    This position will work collaboratively with colleagues across University Advancement to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects for the School of Dentistry.

    All job functions must be performed with a high degree of professionalism, including responsibility, initiative, creativity, dependability, human relations, cooperation, courtesy, and in compliance with Affirmative Action.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Effectively manage a portfolio of 50 major gift prospects (as determined by the Vice President for University Advancement).


    Responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects with a giving capacity of $25,000 or more.

    Create a

    cultivation/solicitation

    strategy for each prospect for whom a principal or major gift solicitation is planned.


    Solicit and secure gifts to reach a minimum annual goal of $2 Million or more (as determined by the Assistant Vice President for Development, HSC).


    Meet or exceed annual performance goals, to include personal visits, proposals submitted, proposals funded, and new dollars raised as defined each year by the Assistant Vice President for Development, HSC.


    Record all activities within the prospect database in a timely fashion; build positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues within University Advancement and across the School of Dentistry.


    Manage, lead, coach, and train a Director of Development responsible for securing gifts of $10,000 or more for the School of School of Dentistry.


    Educate and include School of Dentistry academic leaders and faculty in the development process, as appropriate; communicate effectively; and conduct oneself professionally with the highest degree of integrity.

    Some evening and weekend work will be required.
    Preferred Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree in any rigorous academic field and a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a proven fundraising leader in a complex, decentralized, comprehensive university environment is preferred.

    An advanced degree or professional fundraising certification is valued.
    Experience with high-net-worth individuals, capital project fundraising, planned giving or wealth management, and/or work in CFR is highly valued.

    Experience managing a major gift portfolio utilizing metrics, systems, and relationship building skills to maximize strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of 6 figure plus donors and transformational gifts.

    A deep understanding of and commitment to an integrated advancement program; and experience in a complex major research university environment.

    Keen understanding of the natural tension that exists when working with a multitude of colleges, departments, and programs with varying priorities is essential.

    Experience working to sustain strong working relationships with staff, donors, faculty, volunteers, and academic leadership is imperative.

    A strong ability to develop sincere, productive relationships and to build trust both with internal colleagues and external constituencies is a must.

    Keen sense of requirements necessary to foster a team-centric culture and environment. Proven success at developing and implementing creative solicitation strategies for transformational philanthropic gifts in a team-oriented and collaborative

    environment. Superior

    interpersonal and listening skills and exceptional negotiation skills and proven ability to make independent decisions.
    Competencies
