We roast, prepare and sell good coffee and best-in-class coffee gear at our Downtown Oakland cafe and through our website. We love coffee and we love being hosts to our community: cultivating a fun, warm and welcoming environment, while emphasizing excellent customer service and high quality in all our product offerings. Were looking for experienced Baristas and experienced Shift Lead Baristas to join our team who:

    Baristas: have 1-3 years of experience on bar

    Shift Lead Baristas: 2-3 years of experience on bar + shift leader or other management experience

    love being of service to others

    work quickly and efficiently in a fast paced environment

    love coffee culture and community, and

    want to contribute to making Awaken Cafe & Roasting a highly regarded coffee business and great place to work.

    During the pandemic, weve invested in brand updates, interior design upgrades, a brand new custom KB90 espresso machine, upgraded equipment, stream-lined product mix, energy efficiency upgrades, and refining our internal systems.

    Were also pleased to now offer employer subsidized health insurance to full time (30+ hours) team members.

    **Barista & Shift Lead Barista**

    **Responsibilities**

    Facility with dialing in espresso to taste

    Demonstrate strong milk texture and latte art skills

    Understanding of a variety of coffee brew methods and recipes

    Demonstrate customer service excellence

    Shift Leader: Provide direction and feedback to teammates during shifts

    Shift Leader: Help train and coach new employees

    Shift Leader: Ensure company policies and health/safety standards are followed

    Shift Leader: Address customer and employee complaints

    Shift Leader: Resolve conflicts between workers

    Shift Leader: Foster and maintain a positive work environment

    **Skills**

    Skilled and experienced barista

    Strong communication skills

    Knowledge of the coffee industry

    Commitment to excellent customer service

    Working well within a team

    Shift Leader: Proven experience as a Shift Leader or relevant managerial role

    Shift Leader: Leadership skills and ability to make decisions fast

    Shift Leader: Strong problem-solving aptitude

    Current pandemic shift times: 7am 2:30pm, 7 days.

    Covid-19 vaccination and booster required.
