The Training Program Manager is responsible for the creation and execution of all field training programs and practices for Peet's coffeebars and AFH (Away from Home).

They will identify and monitor training needs in the retail organization - and design, plan, and implement training programs, policies, and procedures to fulfill those needs.

They play a crucial role in creating and implementing training programs which enables Peet's coffeebar employees to be able to deliver the highest quality products and creates a culture of learning and development within the coffeebars.

Training Program Manager is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader to positively impact our loyal Peetniks and engage our coffeebar teams by:

  • Assessing compliance and skill gaps and translating into relevant learning for our retail employees
  • Taking field feedback to streamline, improve and simplify the training process
  • Leveraging and improving key people metrics in the employee life cycle
  • Developing the skills and knowledge of our coffeebar employees in all areas
  • Building content that aligns coffeebar employees to Peet's values
  • Supporting communication, delivery and training of all retail operational goals into clear and understandable objectives for our coffeebars
  • Supporting leadership development in the field
What You Will Do


Retail Training:

  • Developing an annual training implementation plan.
  • Owns a key role in training content, such as Store Manager, Shift Lead and Barista training design and development.
  • Stewards the success of our retail LMS platform design & content.
  • Review weekly, monthly, and quarterly audits and identify themes & trends to improve customer and employee experience.
  • Ensure training aligns to meet operational excellence expectations through a customer service analysis program.
  • Designing and facilitating new training programs that support core coffeebar programs as well as new initiatives.
  • Collaborates effectively with cross functional teams and field leadership to identify learning gaps and training needs.
  • Partners to create content for DEIB, and HR initiatives quarterly.
  • Key stakeholder in leading and directing seasonal launches and test & learn initiatives.
  • Formulating training plans and determining instructional delivery methods (i.e., coffeebar training, elearning, videos, conference calls, meetings)
  • Developing training aids such as handbooks, visuals aids, webinars, screencasts etc.
  • Tracking and reporting monthly and quarterly training attainment.
  • Using data to drive improvement of training across key operational areas.
  • Measuring effectiveness of training tools, programs, and initiatives, adjusting as necessary reporting back quarterly.
  • Partnering with field leadership & hiring managers in the onboarding of new Home Office employees.
  • Continues education on training and instructional methodology.

Retail Development:

  • Leading retail development initiatives and programs.
  • Partnering with HR to maintain development tools for the field.
  • Ensuring Certified Training Stores (CTS) are equipped to deliver results while maintaining stable and supportive training environments.
  • Creating and utilizing evaluation tools to measure the performance of CTS locations.
  • Maintaining and driving continuous improvement of training and store immersion plans for all leaders in the field.
  • Supporting and assisting in the implementing of role changes for the field when applicable.


Who you Are- Must reside within a commutable distance (~ less than 50 miles) to Peet's corporate headquarters (Emeryville, California).- Able to travel up to 40% of the time.- Familiar with Workday LMS- Familiar with instructional design methodology- Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field or equivalent training in adult learning courses.- A minimum of 2 years experience in training and development management (essential).- Industry/Retail coffee experience preferred.- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.- Track record of developing and executing successful training programs and able to share work product.- Critical thinker with proven ability to make quality decisions innovative problem-solving skills.- Highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Office, LMS platforms, Articulate, and related business and communication tools.- Familiar with traditional and modern training processes and systems.- Fantastic organizational and time management skills.- Proven team player- Proven adult learning approach with facilitation experience.- Strategic and creative mindset.- Meticulous attention to detail.
