    Default job background
    Description
Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington (SMGW)

    Position Description:
    Development Director

    Reports to:
    Executive Director

    Position Summary

SMGW seeks a full-time professional to serve as Development Director (DD) to engage and empower others in our shared mission through gifts of our time, talent, and treasure.

The DD oversees all fundraising activities including strategic fundraising, individual giving campaigns, corporate sponsorship, grant-writing, event planning, and planned giving campaigns.

While the Executive Director (ED) cultivates, asks, and stewards most major individual and institutional donors, the DD is a full partner in this work.

The DD coordinates the design and management of key fundraising events.

Management responsibility includes leading a 6-person staff team (including the ED), comanaging a Development Committee, and contributing to the Management Team.

    Who We Are

SMGW is a non-profit organization committed to empowering program participants to realize significant and positive life changes.

Through a practice of rigorous compassion, coaching, training, and learning, trained Next Step caseworkers, specialists, and instructors, partner with participants to set life goals in areas of employment, housing, education, health, and benefits.

In collaboration with their caseworker and program specialists, participants then identify the smaller, achievable "next steps" required to meet their goal, including engaging in Next Step offerings, e.g., STRIVE employment and Pre-GED instruction, designed to build capacities and overcome barriers.

Our mission includes strategic engagement with volunteers, who experience life-change for themselves in the Next Step process.

SMGW is a diverse team comprised of paid full-time staff and part-time volunteers who are also committed to community change-work through deliberate collective action to end systemic racism while seeking equity for all.

We are faith-based and mission-driven, though we have no religious requirements for program participation or employment.
