Purpose/Introduction:


Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Control Systems Superintendent to join the Technical Team for the Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX.

This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.

The Control Systems Superintendent position is responsible for supervising and mentoring a group of twenty engineers and professionals. These make up the Process Control/Process Automation and IPS teams.

The department works closely with the daily operations of olefins, polyethylene, and utilities units and provides resources for IPS and controls systems related maintenance, troubleshooting and optimization, and project implementation so the producing assets can run safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Initially this position will be focused on Operational Readiness by building the team, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned, and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up of the facility.


This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.

Responsibilities:


  • Support and demonstrate leadership in the site's Journey to Zero.
  • Responsible for technical and professional development of the Process Control/Process Automation & IPS teams that includes three team leaders and approximately twenty engineers and professional technical personnel.
  • Overall responsibility for improving, developing, and implementing control and IPS strategies that improve facility safety, reliability, profitability, and efficiency.
  • Ensure Process Control and IPS involvement in scope development, PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), HAZOPS (Hazards and Operability Study), LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis) studies, PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Reviews), and SAT/FAT (Site and Facility Acceptance Testing).
  • Ensure the development and validation of new IPS proof test procedures (PTP), as well as maintenance of existing IPS test procedures.

Responsibilities (continued):


  • Ensure that the Alarm Documentation and Rationalization (D&R) / Alarm Objective Analysis (AOA) activities are performed and implemented in the DCS.
  • Manage support for capital and expense projects in the $5M to $5MM cost range for the implementation of DCS, APC strategies, process optimization, alarm management, and process information management systems.
  • Responsible for coordinating with the ICS group the daytoday support and maintenance of process control hardware such as workstations, servers and switches.
  • Participate in plant improvement teams, special projects or Corporate initiatives as needed.
  • Participate on steering teams that set site strategy and partner with other superintendents related to Turnarounds, PSM Compliance, Performance By Design, Tier 3 Improvement.

Required Qualifications:


  • High school diploma with a minimum of 12 years of Instrumentation, Electrical, or Controls experience supporting olefins or polyethylene manufacturing facilities OR a Bachelor's degree in engineering with 8 years of industry experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Minimum 4+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Previous process automation experience in a petrochemical facility.
  • Strong commitment to Process and Personnel safety leadership.
  • Possession of strong coaching, mentoring and influence skills, experience managing multiple assignments, people, and projects, in a fastpaced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated leader with the ability to manage effectively and develop clear and detailed organizational objectives and strategies.
  • Have applied knowledge of Industry and/or Chevron Phillips design codes and practices, inherently safe design practices, process safety, process riskmitigation, alarm management, and industrial control systems security.
  • Have excellent problemsolving skills and be able to think quickly and adeptly about how to address problems as they come up and influence long term solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external organizations such as operations, I&E maintenance, engineering, plant management, consultants, and vendors.
