Summary
The Department of Language, Culture, and the Arts, and the Public Communication and Culture Studies program in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) i nvites applicants for a LEO Lecturer I, non-tenure-track appointment which begins September 3, 2024 through December 31, 2024, for the Fall 2024 term.
Contractual full-time rate per term is $25,500; term salary is dependent on number of courses taught and course effort percentage, up to 33.33% appointment for the Fall 2024 term.
The successful candidate will be comfortable teaching in face-to face, hybrid, and asynchronous/online modalities for the Communication program in Communication starting September 2024 through December 31, 2024 for the following Communication course:COMM 365 (Health Communication) at 33.33% effort. The course is offered on Tuesday/Thursday at 12:00 ? 1:45 pm.
T his course examines theory and research relevant to health communication including in patient-provider, interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, and mass communication contexts.
Through case studies, guest speakers, media examples, role playing, and discussion, students will be equipped to (a) analyze how messages from patient-provider, interpersonal, intercultural, organizational, and media sources affect health beliefs and behaviors, (b) evaluate the quality of communication in health and illness contexts, (c) apply this knowledge to become a more active participant in their OWN health care.
Based on performance and enrollment, Lecturer may be appointed for the Winter 2025 term.The University of Michigan-Dearborn is one of the three campuses of the University of Michigan.

ABD and/or M.A., M.S., or M.P.H in hand by August 2024 in Communication or Public Health.
A record of scholarly work or of published creative work, and excellence in teaching, particularly in teaching a diverse student population.
Desired Qualifications*
Ability to teach about health communication (i.e., the exchange of health-related messages) in interpersonal, clinical, organizational, community, intercultural, global, and mass/social media contexts.
