    The New York Post is seeking a full-time Civil Court Reporter who can thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The shift for this role will be Monday through Friday, 9-5 p.m.

    The Civil Court Reporter will have a sharp eye for picking out the bizarre, quirky, fun New York City lawsuits and court battles Post readers love and have institutional knowledge of the civil and criminal justice system.

    Responsibilities:

    • Monitor daily civil, divorce and surrogate filings in Manhattan Supreme Court to pick out offbeat, quirky, high-profile or otherwise newsworthy cases
    • Attend civil court hearings on cases that are of interest to The Post
    • Build strong sources within the legal community, including attorneys, judges and court officials, to break stories and get ahead of noteworthy filings
    • Translate complex legal proceedings into engaging, accessible stories for a broad audience, cutting through legalese to highlight the most important aspects of each case
    • Pitch, report and write multiple stories daily under tight deadlines
    • Prioritize assignments based on relevance, urgency, and reader interest, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

    Requirements:

    • At least three years of legal experience in a major, breaking news operation
    • Institutional knowledge of the civil and criminal justice system, preferably in New York, with experience covering trials, lawsuits, motions and other routine hearings
    • A self-starter, break exclusive stories on a competitive beat that go beyond the basic court story
    • Strong writing skills with the ability to cut through the legalese to tell the most compelling story in an accessible way
    • Regularly work out of Manhattan Supreme Court and monitor dockets, new filings and ongoing cases
    • Able to develop sources and cultivate contacts
    • Ability to juggle multiple stories a day on daily deadline
    • Working knowledge of SEO and social-media best practices

    Note: This position will be based in the Manhattan Supreme Court newsroom located at 60 Centre Street in Lower Manhattan.

    Salary: $68,000 - $78,000

    Note: This position is also overtime eligible.
