Community Guardian Program


JASA assumes the legal role of community guardian for adults who have been judged legal incapacitated by the courts and require a legal guardian.

Through assessment, comprehensive service planning, regular visits, ongoing support, and regular reports to the courts, JASA ensures that the needs of these individuals are met.

Guardianship responsibilities can encompass a wide range of duties.

Based on court decision this can include assistance with aspects of daily living and advocacy with medical and social service providers.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Producing, editing and formatting legal documents
  • Filing Court documents, both electronic and inperson at Clerk's offices
  • Obtaining and reviewing court orders, commissions and other documents
  • Assisting in developing standard operating procedures
  • Managing and distributing correspondence
  • Serving as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing Court Examiner relationships and processing of bills
  • Assisting CGP management with special projects, compliance and day to day operations
  • Managing scheduling of CGP meetings (internal and external), and court calendar
  • Coordinating of the filing of court reports, including but not limited to, Initials, Annuals and Testimonies
  • Managing and coordinating databases, case management systems, case files, attorney correspondence and dockets
  • Performance of occasional work outside of standard work hours, sometimes with little notice
  • Travel throughout New York City, as needed
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:


  • Fouryear college degree, experience may be substituted for education
  • At least 5 years' prior administrative experience
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to compose, proof and edit correspondence and documents
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to master new technology
  • Strong research skills, including internet research
