    **Duties & Responsibilities**

    **Executive Director Primary Responsibilities**

    Oversee all day-to-day business and operational functions.

    Manage, increase, and/or maintain revenue.

    Provide thoughtful, caring leadership and support to all staff.

    Work collaboratively with Business Affairs Auxiliary management team to advance the Division's mission.

    Lead the efforts and best practices in course material and affordability initiatives on campus.

    Develop strategic initiatives that integrates with the University's overall strategic plan.

    **Functions/Tasks**

    Focuses on financial issues:

    + Meets Business Affairs overall financial goals by creating collaborative working relationships.

    + Manages overall financial growth, product margins with targets of increased gross margins and lower cost of sales, and inventory levels.

    + Manages budget and financial forecasts for entire organization as well as conducts monthly reviews of all recorded transactions.

    + Develops financial projections with coordination of marketing plans.

    + Maintains and expands best practices that improve the performance, value, efficiency, and self-financing of the BookStores.

    Performs a variety of personnel-related functions:

    + Develops staff and management to ensure continued successful leadership throughout the organization.

    + Leads recruitment and hiring processes to create a dynamic team while also providing professional development opportunities.

    + Conducts employee performance evaluations in a timely manner.

    Meets with the designated Associate Vice President on a regular basis to review business operations, programs and services, new initiatives and opportunities, and budget projections.

    Leads purchasing functions:

    + Approves purchase investments to maintain inventory levels meeting sales projections.

    + Develops new procedures that will increase inventory turns to improve GMROI.

    + Develops business partnerships with primary vendors to support BookStores and Business Affairs programs.

    + Maintains licensing and trademark standards to meet UA policy.

    + Ensures that Associate and Assistant Directors are negotiating for best prices, terms and conditions, (including freight), and are in compliance with UA policy.

    Leads Marketing and Branding functions:

    + Creates new marketing programs to enhance overall branding and awareness of programs.

    + Develops and improves store image.

    + Develops financial plans to meet overall marketing plans.

    + Develops new business opportunities with UArizona Trademark, Licensing and Branding Department to grow royalty revenues.

    Responsible for managing operations in various areas such as development of operational manuals, management of subsidiary stores, and verification that all cash handling procedures meet UArizona policies and procedures.

    Serves as a representative of the University and Business Affairs Division:

    + Represents BookStores business model on university and national committees and advisory boards.

    + Collaborates with other members of Business Affairs Auxiliary Services management team to provide leadership, strategic direction, and vision for the development and achievement of the Business Affairs Division's mission.

    Provides leadership in development opportunities, especially those involving corporations and/or external businesses.

    + Cultivates and stewards relationships with the University of Arizona Foundation to develop new business partnerships.

    + Collaborates with campus partners to grow business partnerships and student learning opportunities.

    **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**

    Skilled in organizational development leadership and supervision.

    Knowledge of financial accounting principles and budget forecasting.

    Knowledge of inventory investments and expense control.

    Ability to coordinate and prioritize work and activities of self and others.

    Skilled in analytical, interpersonal, and oral and written communication.

    Ability to work and collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders and colleagues.

    Knowledge of principles/practices used in successful management of retail industry.

    **Minimum Qualifications**

    Bachelor's degree in a field related to merchandising

    Minimum of 11 years of related work experience, including 7 years of managerial experience, preferably in large complex institutions or organizations, or equivalent combination of education and work experience

    Experience managing a large retail store/multi store operation.

    **Preferred Qualifications**

    Experience managing a large retail store/multi-store operation.

    Experience in profit generation, inventory, and expense control.

    Experience with organizational profit and loss.

    Experience formulating, documenting, and implementing systems, standards, and procedures.

    Experience negotiating business contracts, agreements, and development strategies.

    Experience and success in growing and managing a high-sales volume organization with multiple business sites and partnerships.
