Training (Theory and Practice):


The training to become an Operating Room Assistant (OTA) is a specialized program for the extensive tasks in the operating room, endoscopy, central sterilization, and surgical outpatient department.

OTAs ensure the smooth running of operations. For their work, they require a high level of responsibility, accuracy, resilience, and teamwork.

OTAs prepare the operating room, care for patients before and after the procedure, and assist doctors during the often multi-hour operations.

They hand over required instruments and prepare materials.

Afterwards, they take care of the reprocessing of instruments, independently carry out hygiene measures in the operating room, and replenish material stocks.

They are also responsible for maintaining medical equipment and documenting procedures.

Given the diverse requirements placed on Operating Room Assistants, the 3-year training program is demanding and comprehensive.

The theoretical and practical training at the Hanse-Institut in Oldenburg is provided in alternating phases with practical training in a hospital.

This provides aspiring OTAs with the professional and methodological skills necessary for responsible work in the operating room.

At the same time, the teachers and practical instructors in the theoretical and practical parts of the training also take into account the high level of social and organizational skills required.

Important guiding principles for the training are therefore to promote teamwork, independence, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students, and to teach them a patient-oriented approach.
