    Cherry Hospital is currently recruiting to fill several full-time, Health Care Technician II positions to provide nursing care and therapeutic health care to patients in a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU).

    This position will deal with the most acute and aggressive patients and will require more extensive training in order to handle the challenges presented to them within this unit.

    The primary focus of this position includes but is not limited to providing active programming and ensuring the safety of our patients, which is driven by individual patients' treatment plans.

    Cherry Hospital (CH) is a State-of-the-Art psychiatric hospital located in a beautiful rural area of Goldsboro, NC. Although rural, Cherry Hospital is convenient to the Triangle Area (Raleigh/Durham) and the coastal region of the state. It is about an hour's drive to the heart of Raleigh or the beautiful coastal town of New Bern.


    About the Unit:
    The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an inpatient unit serving individuals from the ages of 18 and up.

    The objective of the PICU is to provide a safe and structured environment for patients needing a higher level of psychiatric nursing intervention and intervention.

    A multidisciplinary treatment team targets a broad range of psychiatric illnesses and behavioral challenges with various therapeutic programs and educational groups.

    Nursing teammates work closely as part of the multidisciplinary team to help patients meet their goals and transition back to their assigned patient care unit or back into the community.

    Nursing care is performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.


    Health Care Technician II:


    The Health Care Technician II (HCT) serves as a role model and mentor to other HCT I's throughout the facility and provides quality care to patients on the PICU.

    As an essential member of a multidisciplinary care team, the HCT II practices therapeutic principles when providing care to the patients they serve.

    A typical day on the PICU consists of interacting with teammates and patients and ensuring the safety of both. Patients begin their day being encouraged and mentored by teammates. Teammates provide structured skill building activities and interaction throughout the day.


    The HCT II works closely with the Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse manager to train and orient new HCT I's, facilitate professional communication and provide feedback to improve processes and quality care.

    The HCT II role models and builds therapeutic and meaningful relationships between teammates and patients to facilitate patient success.

    Nursing Care is performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

    High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Special Condition for Continued Employment As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the

    North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.

    Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.

    Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

    Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

    "A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

    An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

    (1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

    (2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

    (3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
