Are you looking for a leadership role in the teaching field? Join our team at The Helix School, where we are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher/Coordinator to help grow our Middle School program for the 24-25 school year.

As the Coordinator of the Middle School Program at Helix you will be responsible for the following


Coordinator Specific Responsibilities

In addition to leading one of the three middle school classes you will be responsible to:

  • Create and implement the bell schedule/block schedule changing of classes in collaboration with our Director of Teaching and Learning and other middle school teachers
  • Proactively monitor and manage the middle school schedule
  • Collaborate with the middle school team to pick curriculum and support implementation
  • Develop a strong sense of community in the Middle School and ensure that collaborative expectations, routines, and procedures are being implemented across the three middle school classes
  • Guide the middle school teachers in implementing best teaching practices
  • Collaborate regularly with the Director of Teaching and Learning
  • Hold meetings with the Middle School team to support teaching needs and support the Director of Teaching and Learning in teacher meetings

Teaching Specific Responsibilities

  • Innovative Curriculum Design: You will design and implement a dynamic and engaging curriculum that caters to the unique needs of high school students with autism. Your creativity will shine as you develop innovative strategies to foster academic growth, life skills development, and socialemotional wellbeing.
  • Individualized Instruction: Utilizing evidencebased practices, you will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of each student. Your expertise in autism intervention will enable you to provide differentiated instruction, ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.
  • Social Skills Development: You will facilitate the development of social skills and foster a sense of belonging among students. Through structured activities, group projects, and community engagement, you will empower students to build meaningful relationships and navigate social interactions confidently.
  • Collaborative Approach: You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior analysts, and parents, to develop comprehensive strategies that support the holistic development of each student. Your ability to collaborate and communicate effectively will be crucial in achieving the best outcomes for your students.

Qualifications:


  • Special Education Certification (required)
  • Proven experience working with neurodivergent studentsespecially autistic students(required)
  • Indepth knowledge of evidencebased practices and interventions
  • Strong understanding of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and experience in their development and implementation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team and parents
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of neurodivergent students
