    Position Summary


    The Clinical Program Manager for the Suicide Prevention Program helps to oversee all clinical aspects of the crisis program including staffing, maintaining records, clinical training of department staff, clinical consultations and clinical supervision, preparing reports and making presentations for the agency and partners in the community, and development and provision of clinical trainings, policies, and protocols specific to the field of suicidology, mental illness, and clinical concerns related to the triage, transfer, and facilitating connections to mobile crisis teams and crisis stabilization units when indicated.

    Facilitate evidence-based suicide prevention trainings for crisis center such as ASIST.

    The Clinical Program Manager will also facilitate and maintain regular clinical supervision with licensed or associate crisis line clinicians, and other crisis center staff as needed.

    Required Qualifications

    Masters level education with current unencumbered LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC California licensure.

    Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills; sound clinical judgement.

    Familiar with Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing, Client Centered theory, or willing to learn.


    Willingness to become a certified trainer in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Master Trainer or other approved evidence-based suicide prevention trainings for crisis center.


    Knowledge of patient care, addiction treatment and community resources including Medicare, Medi-Cal, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and the county's General Assistance Program.


    Knowledge of the continuum of crisis care in CA and requirements to access and navigate treatment services for individuals with medi-cal, uninsured, and private insurance.

    Ability to coordinate and facilitate trainings and meetings.


    Demonstrated commitment to the of services of the underserved and sensitivity working with a variety of people from low-income populations, with diverse educational, lifestyle, ethnic, and cultural origins; disabled, homeless, substance users, HIV (AIDS) infected, and/or physiologically impaired.

    Commitment to HIPAA confidentiality rules and to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.


    Ability to work a flexible schedule in order to meet business needs including some evenings, weekends, and holidays with the ability to work "on –call".

    Efficient time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and organizational needs.

    Excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbally and in writing.

    Proficient using Outlook, MS Word and Excel.

    Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment.


    Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.

    Assist and support the

    Center/Department/Program

    to meet standards of High Reliability.

    Must have valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Manage and provide oversight of the clinical elements of the suicide prevention program.

    Recruit, screen, train, and supervise of clinical staff and interns.

    Supervise any paid department staff members, Supervisors as needed.

    Facilitate clinical supervision with associate Crisis Center Clinicians who may need it for licensure.

    Provide ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, or other trainings as requested, quarterly at minimum.

    Maintain accurate and detailed records and files of agency programs.

    Maintain confidentiality as required.


    Ensure crisis line is adequately staffed by clinicians at all times; Provide emergency shift coverage as needed; Provide consultation and debriefing to crisis counselors as needed; Work "on-call" to answer crisis counselor questions and solve scheduling problems.

    Participate in conferences and meetings as requested.

    Work with Board, Management, agency committees, and attend meetings as required or needed.

    Consult with Director regarding updates/ changes/ needs in policy, procedure, training, etc.

    Assist in preparation of department budget upon request; monitor expenses monthly.

    Prepare monthly/quarterly, annual statistical and other reports as required.

    Assist Director with development and maintenance of clinical training handbook for crisis line clinicians.

    Assist Director with development and implementation of classroom and online basic training curriculum and workshops for crisis center team.

    Promote teamwork and positive professional work relationships.

    Provide trainings and presentations to community groups and agencies.

    Provide Supervisory Clinical Consultation to Supervisors, Program Manager, staff, and volunteers/interns on mandated reporting issues or imminent risk situations.

    Manage and monitor all mandated reporting.


    Provide clinical guidance on handling of high frequency or abusive callers and any considerations for potential call restrictions or limits.


    Assist Director with oversight all aspects of Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement activities and participate in agency wide QA/QI program as requested.

    Maintain adherence to Accreditation standards and practices with AAS, ICH, Joint Commission, National Lifeline Certification at all times

    Other duties as assigned.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach.

    The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.


    The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes.

    The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client's use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care.

    The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
