    Summary

    This position is one of six Deputy Assistant Attorneys General in the Department of Justice, Criminal Division (CRM), and is on the immediate staff of the Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in charge of the Division. The position manages and supervises the affairs and business of CRM under the direction of the AAG and the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General. This position supervises the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.

    Duties

    The Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG) acts as consultant and advisor on those questions of major policy and matters that require the personal attention of the AAG. They are also responsible for the direct supervision of assigned Division sections, including the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS) and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS).

    The Deputy Assistant Attorney General:
  • Ensures that Sections under their direction are properly aligned and focused on outcomes that support the Attorney General's strategic goals and Administration priorities. Confers with and advises the Sections under their supervision on the development of business plans that define core functions and responsibilities; outlines proposed changes in program priorities, direction and orientation; and identifies solutions for accomplishing the Division's mission
  • Plays an active role in sensitive policy formulation and oversees the investigation and prosecution of cases under their supervision. Provides legal guidance that reflects a thorough knowledge of highly specialized areas under their purview.
  • Supervises the analysis and review of proposed or pending legislation for possible impact on the work of their Sections.
  • Represents the AAG in matters relating to designated program areas; on various interdepartmental committees or activities; and with members of Congress and their staffs. Maintains close relationships with investigative agencies. Testifies before Congress and speaks publicly on matters relating to designated program areas.
  • Serves as an advocate for the financial, human, and technical resource allocations to the Sections under their leadership. Works closely with responsible Sections to ensure that resource enhancements necessary for proposed priorities are identified.
  • Monitors activities to ensure that resources appropriated by Congress are properly obligated and effectively monitored to accomplish strategic and annual performance goals.
