- Develop and manage the SALT practice, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to ensure high-quality deliverables and professional development.
- Review and analyze state and local tax returns, including income, franchise, sales and use, and property tax filings, to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Advise clients on state and local tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and maximize tax benefits.
- Stay updated on changes in state and local tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, and communicate these updates to the team and clients as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the SALT practice.
- Collaborate with other departments and professionals within the firm to provide comprehensive tax solutions to clients.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique business needs and providing tailored tax services and solutions.
- Assist in business development efforts by participating in client meetings, presentations, and proposals to expand the firm's SALT practice.
- Ensure compliance with professional standards, ethics, and firm policies in all engagements.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A master's degree in taxation is preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) license is required.
- Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in state and local taxation, preferably in a public accounting firm.
- Extensive knowledge of state and local tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and provide innovative solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to clients and team members.
- Proven experience managing and leading teams, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Proficiency in tax research tools and software (e.g., CCH, RIA Checkpoint, BNA).
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
