    Description


    Influences and strategically manages the linkages across multiple functional areas, including quality, regulatory, clinical, statistics, legal, purchasing and finance to drive the successful implementation of the outsourcing strategy within the global R&D clinical trial environment.

    Leads the strategy for workload management across their direct reports to ensure key milestones are met for Abbvie clinical trials.

    May also lead functional area's contracting needs, i.e., HEOR, GMA or statistics including workload and FTE mgmt.

    Independently leads the RFP and RFI process, analyze supplier services, budgets and proposals, conduct bid defense meetings, award vendor, negotiate and execute complex agreements (i.e., CRO, study related collaboration agreements, risk based recruitment agreements and imaging agreements) up to $700 Million committed spend annually including unique non-preferred provider contracts.


    Provide effective communication and recommendations based on SME knowledge of the vendor category to the business to ensure Abbvie receives the best value for the contracted service.

    Accountable for the development and successful execution of contract implementation plan for all R&D clinical studies, including Global vendor agreements in support of the Global clinical trials, which includes developing a sourcing strategy to ensure timelines are met


    while maintaining compliance with all applicable policies and procedures; estimated range of dollar value 1-50M or more which are executed approximately 1-2 per month which takes on average 6 months to complete negotiations.

    Actively monitors study progress to anticipate changes in study scope to ensure timely change order implementation and finalization utilizing expertise and knowledge to drive the negotiation of the change orders and associated costs to minimize the risk to AbbVie.


    Independently manages expectations and mitigates risk by providing strategic solutions for issues and executes final agreements/change orders with minimal senior management oversight.


    Provide leadership and guidance to develop other team members and direct reports on complex agreements to obtain subject matter expert status via mentoring and coaching.

    Provides subject matter expertise and leadership to training activities internal/external to Outsourcing.
    Lead or contribute as a subject matter expert on multiple (2-4) key projects, initiatives, and committees including JOT Governance meetings to identify and implement process improvements and standards while

    ensuring AbbVie's business needs and purchasing/compliance requirements are met. Serves as a liaison and provides leadership and guidance for Clinical Contracting team, including direct reports on governance actions.

    May lead or contribute as a subject matter expert on integration for in-licensed assets or integration of acquisitions into Abbvie systems and contracting policies and procedures.

    Acts as the first line of contact for issue escalation related to contracts and budgets.


    Independently identifies, escalates and manages non-preferred provider vendor performance issues and develops and implements solutions to ensure overall performance, compliance, and quality.

    Provides education of internal stakeholders on key contractual terms and obligations to ensure compliance and understanding as the business partners execute the work performed under the contract.


    For non-preferred providers, responsible for problem solving at both strategic and operational levels; leads the cross functional team thru the identification and resolution of issues related to a contract or management of the supplier to the contract or management of performance issues.

    This may involve problem solving between functional areas and external suppliers.


    Has contract signatory responsibility for contracts as designated by AbbVie policies and procedures (delegation of budget authority currently up to 1.0M).

    Performs quality checks and provide feedback when needed on other team member's work on all R&D clinical agreement types.

    BA/BS or equivalent related work experience is required; Degree in healthcare, legal and/or finance preferred.


    Minimum 8 years of extensive experience in research, industry or legal setting with pharmaceutical industry experience in clinical outsourcing contracting or finance is required.

    Higher years of experience required without degree.


    Must have management experience or has demonstrated strong skills in People leader behaviors in Decide Smart & Sure and Clear and Courageous Ways we Work Behaviors.


    Must have demonstrated a strong ability in negotiation and project management skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple projects/program/timelines.

    Must have superior written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey overall engagement objectives and maintain open lines of communication between the internal stakeholders and the service providers.


    Ability to build internal and external relationships to effectively and independently provide leadership and mentoring to other team members to strategically drive the business and solve issues efficiently and mitigate risk.
