Overview:

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (the Y) is seeking a cause-driven youth development professional to lead, manage, and oversee our School-Age Out-of-School Time department, including before & after school programs, day camp programs, and expanded learning programs.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles (the Y) currently operates both licensed and licensed-exempt before and after school and out-of-school time expanded learning programs at fifty (50) elementary schools and day camp programs at around eighty (80) elementary school and Y branch sites, throughout Los Angeles County.


We are seeking a dynamic leader who will, with the support of a senior program leadership team, increase the Y's impact and footprint in the before and after school and expanded learning space, through strategic leadership and targeted partnerships.

In alignment with the Y's Center for Community Well-Being strategy framework, the Vice President, Youth Development, will be instrumental in the execution of the Y's cradle-to-community well-being youth development strategy, which aims to create a pathway for success for every child in Los Angeles, through programs, services, initiatives and advocacy.

The total annual operating budget for this department is 18M+. This position reports to and is supported by the Chief Youth Development Program Officer. The Y offers career growth opportunities and a generous benefits package.

This position will supervise five (5) direct reports (three (3) Operations Executive Directors, one (1) program coordinator and one (1) Senior Program Director).

Your team supervises an additional 300+ youth development directors, coordinators, and direct-service staff.

In addition, this position will be a contributing member of the Y's youth development strategy leadership team, consisting of executive staff who oversee early learning, preschool, teens, youth sports, and other youth-focused programs at the Y.

This is not a remote position.

Position will be based out of either a San Fernando Valley, West Los Angeles (LAX) or Santa Clarita Valley location.


Qualifications:

Age:Twenty-one (21) years old or older.
-
Education: Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Child & Adolescent Development, Recreation, or a related field or its equivalent in academic preparation and/or experience. Full knowledge of and experience with California Title 22 licensing compliance and regulation (or comparable compliance and regulation knowledge/experience from another U.S. state). Knowledge of and experience with acceptable child care and day camp practices.

Licenses & Certification: YMCA Multi-Team Leader Certification preferred. California EMSA approved 16-Hour Infant-Child
  • Adult CPR, First Aid, AED, Lead Poisoning Prevention, and Preventative Health and Safety certifications or are willing to certify within 60 days of hire (provided by the YMCA).

Immunizations & Physical: Proof of vaccination for TDAP (Whooping Cough/Pertussis) and MMR (Measles). Completion of health screening and TB clearance within seven (7) days of hire.

Other: Knowledge of program planning, implementation, and management; staff supervision, budgeting/fiscal management. Experience in community development, partnerships, and relations. Experience working with school personnel and school leadership. Familiarity with mandated reporting procedures, safety, and risk management. Must be able to clear a criminal record background check (DOJ/FBI/CACI).

  • The job is based out of a YMCA facility in the Greater Los Angeles area. This is not a remote position.
  • The position is supported by (1) three regional Operations Executive Directors, whom each provide senior leadership to an assigned cluster of before and after school and day camp programs within their assigned region the Operations Executive Directors provide direct supervision and oversight of over fifty (50) site directors and coordinators and a Senior Program Director, (2) a fulltime Program Coordinator of Administration to support with daily administrative duties, (3) a Finance Team who is responsible for all billing, collections, account receivables, third party funding and grant funding, (4) the Centralized Child Care Department, which executes all licensing related administration/paperwork and (5) and other support staff that assist in daytoday operations.
