Our extensive network comprises distribution, manufacturing, and sales sites strategically positioned throughout the United States. Beyond track materials, A&K boasts affiliated railroad operations crucial to key infrastructure in Mississippi and Kansas, as well as car storage facilities spread across multiple states.

Job Description:

As the General Manager of our Logistics Division, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the efficient movement of products both inbound and outbound from A&K's various locations. You will serve as the primary liaison between the logistics department, sales and operations, ensuring competitive rates and innovative solutions to deliver products to our customers and A&K facilities effectively. Additionally, you will play a key role in managing relationships with A&K's affiliated railways, conducting tariff reviews, and leveraging track infrastructure to secure car storage on A&K and affiliated track assets.

Responsibilities:

Be the overall project lead for large, multi-modal projects involving incoming goods to various ports, coordinating rail car and truck shipments, transloading when necessary, and delivering product to customers as expected.
Collaborate closely with commercial and purchasing teams to negotiate competitive rates and develop strategic solutions for product transportation.
Obtain pricing from various railroads for unit rail train shipments, manage the utilization of the company's unit rail trains and related equipment, collaborate with operations to coordinate loading/unloading crews for projects across North America and determine where best to position empty equipment.
Develop and implement procedures used in obtaining and quoting shipping rates.
Work with the IT and Analytics department to implement a new transportation management system (TMS) and become the subject matter expert for this system in the logistics department.
Conduct regular review of DAT Freight & Analytics to ensure key trucking lanes are updated in A&K's ERP system for quoting purposes.
Provide coaching and leadership to the logistics team, guiding them to become proficient order managers adept at overseeing broad aspects of the order lifecycle, expanding beyond a traditional logistics role.
Conduct regular tariff reviews of A&K's affiliated railways, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with industry standards.
Leverage track infrastructure to secure car storage on A&K and affiliated assets, maximizing the use of track assets.
Provide leadership and guidance to the logistics team, embracing A&K's core values and promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in logistics management, with a focus on rail and ocean transportation optimization and cost efficiency.
Strong negotiation skills with a track record of successfully securing competitive rates and terms.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
Strategic thinker with the ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational optimization.
Leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
