- Screen wet and dry traps for target insect pests such as Mediterranean, Mexican, Oriental, and Melon fruit flies.
- Examine insects submitted from trapping programs for the presence of fluorescent dye using various tools.
- Separate fruit flies and other target insects from non-target insects in samples.
- Prepare and submit suspect pests for further diagnostics.
- Maintain sample integrity and handle them with care.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Organize technical data and submit reports as required.
- Enter data into electronic devices.
- Maintain accurate records of hours worked.
- Perform routine lab maintenance and cleaning.

Job Description and Duties
Under the supervision of the Agriculture Program Supervisor I, the Agricultural Technician II Program (Seasonal) independently performs various duties in a laboratory setting.
Candidates may perform these functions with or without accommodation.
Working Conditions
The duties are primarily indoors in a laboratory with specific equipment. The work area includes necessary tools for insect identification in a controlled environment.
The incumbent should have a valid CA driver's license, be able to use pesticides, work under time constraints, exercise good judgement, determine priorities, and provide accurate assessments in challenging situations.
