    Design Team Lead Engineer


    As a Design Team Lead Engineer at Soaris, you will be the key design interface in the product development process, in concert with a Project Manager and New Product Launch Manager.


    You will lead a team of engineers and technicians through the design process, ensuring the design performance meets the expected requirements and the deliverables are thoroughly detailed and vetted.

    The focus of this role will mainly be (but not limited to) the development of electronic control units.

    Planning & organizational skills are key to this position.

    There are many complex deliverables and interactive timing needs over the design process lifecycle.


    You must be able to prioritize & assign activities according to the skills & timing needed for the deliverables and the capabilities & load of the team members.


    It is not required that you are the expert on every technical topic, but you will need to keep an up-to-date working knowledge of all technical aspects of the design and status of the project deliverables.

    You will represent the design engineers in project alignment discussions with the Project Manager and New Product Launch Manager.


    We find that high performing design team leaders are able to zoom in to the details and out to a bird's-eye view quickly and efficiently.


    You will be responsible for technical content presentation & discussion with the customer's technical team; a conduit between Soaris and customer engineers.

    For our mutual success, you will need to:

    Assess requirements and prepare estimates of effort, tools, and timing for project quotations & to support annual budget process.

    Ensure deliverables are at the appropriate maturity level by project milestones.


    Deliverables include drawings, schematics, worst-case and performance analysis, simulation, validation plans and test reports, DFMEA, specification compliance assessment, BOM releases, component specifications, etc.

    Drive design reviews:

    ensure the right audience, sufficient time is provided, that action items are assigned & driven to completion.

    Ensure coordination of validation activities:

    quotation & scheduling of validation labs, development and procurement of validation test fixtures and setups, preparation for testing, execution of tests, and resolution of any resulting concerns.

    Verify compliance with customer specifications, interface with customers to clarify requirements, and develop performance specifications where none are available.

    Work with New Product Launch Manager to apply design-for-manufacturability feedback and lessons learned to new products.


    Partner with New Product Launch Manager with prototype sample builds (for both internal and external use) and industrialization of design.

    Drive development of manufacturing test requirement specification.

    Assist manufacturing with troubleshooting and quality improvement of released products.

    Lead problem solving / corrective action activities.

    Develop recommendations for advanced technology integration, new processes, and design changes to meet new requirements or reduce cost.

    Manage own professional development by identifying and set up training for skills and/or tools, in alignment with department manager.

    Design Team Lead Engineers

    possess a high degree of proficiency, knowledge, and experience in their discipline.

    As the Design Team Lead role is a Staff & Senior Staff engineer level, this person typically brings the following attributes, behaviors, and skills to the organization at increasing levels:

    Advanced knowledge through extensive directly related experience or post-graduate education.

    Add value by integrating knowledge from distinctly different areas of specialization.

    Are recognized among the most knowledgeable in area of specialized expertise.

    Demonstrate a high degree of innovation to solve complex problems.


    Ability to provide technical guidance to many projects and act as connector between various departments to facilitate and ensure exchange of knowledge.

    Support a greatly varied workload with complex, often competing objectives, frequently requiring interpretation and occurring over extended time frames.

    Ability to determine priorities and may deviate from established procedures and practices if results meet standards of acceptability (e.g., volume, quality, timeliness, accuracy)

    Serve as a leading technical interface with customers and as an ambassador of Soaris.


    Lead tactical planning for task execution, assign priorities and actions to junior team members, and provide critique of their results.

    Coordinate and/or prepare detailed drawings, BOM, validation plan, development tool and effort estimation for costing and quoting activities.

    Proposes new advanced designs & processes and proposes changes to existing designs & processes to meet requirements.

    Provide high degree of contribution to design roadmap.

    Actively mentor, coach, and provide guidance to developing engineers to build skills and skill coverage.

    Lead internal technical committees.

    Independently resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices.

    Creates standard operating procedures & documentation.


    QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or closely related field

    5+ years of design & development experience over entire product development lifecycle

    Experience leading people

    Problem-solving skills & techniques:
    5 why, 8D, Ishikawa diagram

    Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and tools (have performed capability analyses, use of Minitab or similar software, and knowledge of statistical process control [SPC])

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Comfortable in the use of mechanical tools.

    Automotive product development experience, strong interaction with supply chain, quality, & manufacturing in a new product introduction environment-Preferred

    Reliability analysis experience-Preferred

    An ability to work well under pressure-Preferred.

    Excellent teamwork and collaboration capabilities
