    Description


    Maintains, repairs and monitors all factory equipment used in the production of fish products in an at seafood processing environment.

    Primary Job Functions:
    • Continuously monitor and maintain all factory equipment, both moving and stationary, used in the processing factory, for efficiency and function. Make all necessary maintenance and rebuild repairs of mechanical equipment and systems.
    • Maintains up to date knowledge of equipment function, maintenance and repairs to include: conveyors, pumps, hydraulic systems and motors, packaging systems, water piping- high & low pressure.
    • Proficient in fabrication and equipment set-up.
    • Works closely with Factory Manager, Baader and Surimi technicians and, consults vessel Electrician when necessary to ensure optimum equipment operation.
    • Assists with training crew and labor support in equipment safety, Lock Out/Tag Out awareness and procedures.
    • Supports lubrication program, ensuring regular schedules and documentation for each shift.
    • Maintains adequate inventory of parts onboard the vessel for repairs both at sea and in the shipyard.
    • Identify and address worn or damaged equipment, communicating and documenting maintenance and parts needs with the appropriate departments.
    • Schedules maintenance, repair and labor needs for shipyard layup periods. Oversees direction and implementation of shipyard maintenance and repair program, including documenting workflow, parts requisitions and inventory.
    • Maintains a working knowledge of factory equipment safety and systems updates.
    • Communicates effectively and works as part of a team with supervisors, crew, office personnel and vendors to ensure a successful production operation environment.
    • Provide staffing needs, rotation plans and performance feedback to the Factory Manager and/or home office.
    • Attend all planned meetings and training as required.
    Safety:
    • Fulfill duties in a safe, efficient, manner and without jeopardy to self or others.
    • Participate in all required factory safety orientations, meetings and follow up instruction as necessary.
    • Lead by example in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and personal sanitation practices. Instruct processing crew in the requirements and uses of PPE.
    • Employ and document all Lock Out/Tag Out protocol procedures within the factory environment both at sea and in shipyard.
    • Maintain continued working knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment.
    • Confirm only approved materials are used and available for cleanup and repair of machinery in accordance with their instructions and application.
    Compensation and Benefits:

    Conditions on the Vessel:
    • Shifts are 12-16 hours per day, 7 days a week for the duration of the fishing contract.
    • Contracts are seasonal, duration based on the season and the availability of fish.
    • Conditions are regularly cold and wet and weather will cause the vessel to move unexpectedly during operation.
    • Crewmembers provided with a bunk, mattress and locker in crew quarters.
    • Crew lounge provides access to two computer kiosks for short-term usage during breaks.
    Minimum Requirements

    Experience and Training:
    • Formal certification or equivalent training and experiential knowledge in fish processing equipment, maintenance and repair.
    • Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication. Accurately maintain/support documentation protocols.
    • Lock Out/Tag Out training or ability to attain training certificate through company provided training.
    • Continued education in processing equipment and implementation in the vessel factory environment.
    • Experience with fabrication and equipment design as necessary.
    • Adaptable to changes in production requirements and the need for equipment maintenance and repair.
    Physical and Mental Expectations:
    • Able to navigate steep stairways, gangways, Jacob's ladder and/or upper bunk unassisted.
    • Dexterity: able to work while wearing gloves, rain gear, and maintain balance while walking/standing.
    • Visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, capable of fine detail, and distance vision.
    • Standing for long periods of time, pushing/pulling, reaching, twisting/turning, hand-eye coordination. Movements occasionally include lifting up to 60lbs, bending/stooping, squatting/kneeling, climbing and crawling.
    • Regularly requires the ability to communicate direction and information, read and identify signs and alerts in English. Regularly requires symbol recognition and memorization.
    • Able to adjust to shipboard working and living conditions in close quarters, far from home for long periods.
    Employee Responsibility:
    • Employees taking medication or requiring eyeglasses or contacts need a backup pair/sufficient supply to last at least 90 days.
    • Maintains physical and dental health in preparation for work at sea, far from medical facilities, pharmacies or dental services.
    • Employees provide their own rain gear: boots, pants and jacket. Rain gear should be clean, waterproof and comfortable over clothing.
