- Operate, repair and maintain main engines, water pumps, air compressors, electric motors, and other electrical equipment.
- Maintain and repair large scale refrigeration equipment, high and low pressure hydraulic systems, evaporative and reverse osmosis water makers.
- Maintain and repair other equipment on the deck and in the galley including winches, cranes, and galley mechanical equipment.
- Responsible for decisions relating to the safe operation of equipment, its maintenance and repair.
- Utilizes available resources to prevent breakdowns so the vessel can maintain its production schedule.
- Maintain the ships hull and machinery in first class condition and to meet all regulatory requirements.
- Ability to use hand tool, machine tools, and electrical test equipment. Assist factory engineering staff with technical/electrical problems that may occur with the factory process equipment.
- Fulfill duties in a safe, efficient, manner and without jeopardy to self or others.
- Participate in all required drills, safety orientations, meetings and follow up instruction as necessary.
- Lead by example in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Preferred: USCG license equivalent to, or higher than the following: Asst. Engineer UFIV (Unltd. HP) ; 3rd Asst. Engineer (Unltd. HP), DDE (Unltd. HP) or QMED.
- Knowledge of Diesel engines and propulsion systems, auxiliary systems such as electrical motors, electrical circuits and power distribution systems, hydraulic, water, and sewage systems.
- Ability to assist in planning projects, establish priorities, resolve problems, and to work without supervision in a timely manner.
- Shifts are 12hrs. per day.
- Rotations can be up to 60 days, with at-sea rotations depending on fishing.
- Average work days per year are approximately 200 including both at sea and in port periods, split on a rotation basis. In port working hours are 12 hour days, seven day weeks.
