    The Role
    As our first EHS Manager, you'll lead and deploy EHS standards as well as improve our EHS systems.

    You'll use human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health, and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, learning from events and systems-level problem solving.

    You'll also develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework - all while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal standards.


    What you'll do:
    Lead environmental health and safety for the entire company
    Lead a team to establish and improve EHS processes and programs, as they relate to battery manufacturing and validation/test/prototype
    Analyze incident trends and use risk-assessment methods to identify continuous improvement projects that reduce injury, illness and environmental impact events
    Facilitate incident investigations from a root cause analysis approach, ensuring that preventative actions address system causes and not just individual behaviors
    Drive and ensure the EHS Management System elements are applied effectively by your team throughout Operations & Engineering. Develop new procedures, inspections, trainings, or reports as needed
    Review new research materials being used for development, and their impact to air (CAA & BAAQMD) and water (CWA), as well as to employees (CalOSHA / ACGIH)

    Review equipment and space designs on everything from machine guards to chemical processes, and provide feedback on EHS impacts; Industrial Hygiene, Fire Safety, Chemical Safety, Process Safety, Hazardous Materials, NFPA Standards, ANSI/ASTM Standards, etc.

    Coach, mentor and support other EHS team members
    Develop both reactive and preventative approaches to improving safety as well as establishing a safety first mindset/culture
    Compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal standard

    Skills to be successful:
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Physical Sciences, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field

    • 3 years experience managing a team
    7+ years experience as an environmental, health or safety professional
    Experience leading EHS program development, training all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change
    International Building and Fire Code compliance, life safety monitoring systems, and Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP)
    Proven understanding of process design, process validation, implementing safety by design principles, conducting HAZOP's and design reviews and risk elimination and retirement methodologies
    Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Work, Power Point, Project, etc.)
