ABOUT THIS POSITION:


The Planning & Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure.

A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows and needs arise.

The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances. Currently PDD has a vacancy for Plumbing/Mechanical Inspectors II.


Plumbing/Mechanical Inspectors II inspect and evaluate new and existing construction work which may include plumbing, heating, ventilating, cooling systems, and secondary backflow protection devices, for compliance with City Codes, special regulations, approved plans, and other requirements related to non-residential buildings.

These Inspectors make decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment and familiarity with a variety of installation and repair problems.


Opportunity to Underfill Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector I level.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:


  • Knowledge of methods and practices involved in installing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of plumbing and mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of uniform plumbing and mechanical codes and associated rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Ability to detect possible defects and faults in plumbing and mechanical systems and recommend or stipulate appropriate remedial measures.

SALARY:


Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector II

Pay Range:
$31.06 to $45.89 per hour.

Hiring Range:
$31.06 to $39.64 per hour.


Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector I

Pay Range:
$24.34 to $39.64 per hour.

Hiring Range:
$24.34 to $35.96 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector II

  • Two years of experience inspecting and evaluating plumbing, heating, ventilating, and cooling systems for compliance with approved plans, Phoenix Construction Code and related requirements. Two years at the level of Plumbing/ Mechanical Inspector I.
  • By the end of probation, must obtain
    ONE certification in each of the Plumbing
    AND Mechanical disciplines:
  • Plumbing
  • IAPMO Plumbing Inspector OR ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector
  • Mechanical
  • IAPMO Mechanical Inspector OR ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector
  • For Backflow Inspector must
    ALSO obtain:
  • Backflow General Tester
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector I

  • Three years of experience as a journeylevel plumber or HVAC installer skilled in new or remodeling work on commercial, industrial, or multistory residential projects.
  • Or certification by a model code agency as a Plumbing Inspector or Mechanical Inspector.
  • By the end of probation, must obtain ONE certification for either the Plumbing OR Mechanical discipline:
  • Plumbing
  • IAPMO Plumbing Inspector OR ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector
  • Mechanical
  • IAPMO Mechanical Inspector OR ICC Comme
