ABOUT THIS POSITION:


The City of Phoenix Water Services Department is seeking experienced, motivated, and success-oriented Operations & Maintenance Technicians to operate and maintain pumps and mechanical equipment at water or wastewater plants, pumping stations, and remote sites.

Our employees are engaged in multiple aspects of treatment plant operation, treatment system operation, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.

Operations & Maintenance Technicians work with and around chemicals, effluent or similar solutions using personal protective equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Employees in the Operations & Maintenance Technicians*SCBA assignment are required to obtain and maintain additional certifications as required by Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.

Current vacancies are located at the Union Hills Water Treatment Plant (2001 E Deer Valley Rd).


SALARY:


Pay Range:
$25.56 to $37.76 per hour.

Hiring Range:
$25.56 to $32.62 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • One year experience of operations and maintenance of the water/wastewater treatment plant, facility, or system including the repair of pumps, valves, and motors in a municipal or industrial setting;
  • OR Completion of the City of Phoenix O&M Technician Trainee program.
  • Possession of a Grade 2 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Water Treatment certification
    before the end of probation.
  • Positions with SCBA assignment will be required to maintain annual Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) certification through refresher training and annual physical examination per Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
  • Appropriate certification(s) must be maintained as a condition of employment in this classification.
  • This is a 24hour per day, 7day per week operation. You may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, standby and holidays. Vacation and shift assignments are determined by seniority.
  • Work performed requires:
  • Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, untreated water and wastewater, and dust.
  • Walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
  • The ability to move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances.
  • These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
