    Job Description


    The Director, Media Relations strengthens the Albemarle brand and reputation globally through strategic media relations, thought leadership, executive visibility, product launch campaigns and digital content.

    Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this highly experienced and energetic leader-doer serves as a thoughtful advisor and storyteller focused on how to best build Albemarle's brand - at an enterprise as well as Global Business Unit level - through a multi-channel strategy in a meaningful and measurable way.

    What You Will Do:
    Develop a world-class, global media capability that elevates Albemarle's positioning and addresses key stakeholder needs in compelling ways.

    Lead and advance an inventive capability for media/influencer relations with support from direct reports, internal teams, and agency partner(s) befitting a rapidly growing, multinational business.

    Define, execute, and measure a strategic proactive and reactive media relations plan including corporate brand objectives and metrics to successfully elevate the company's visibility and build/protect its reputation with key audiences worldwide.

    Initiate and maintain relationships with key executives, leaders, internal and external stakeholders at the Corporate and Global Business level. Provide counsel regarding stated media needs/opportunities to gain support for and participation in key engagements.
    Partner with critical functions like Investor Relations, Government Relations, and Community Affairs on external matters related to media outcomes.

    Serve as company spokesperson and primary media contact; identify and prepare key spokespeople in the business, joint ventures, and partner organizations.

    Drive and responsibly execute the corporate crisis communication playbook as it relates to media and external influencer audiences.

    Serve as the primary corporate point of contact on issues and crisis communications and partner with Global Business Units and subsidiary organizations on crisis event preparation and management.

    Define and manage media training needs including all internal and external resources.
    Manage major business event external communication needs (mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, etc.)

    Drive and responsibly execute the company narrative, including brand storytelling at the highest and most specific product levels, delivering clear and compelling messaging/talking points, Q&As, briefing documents, holding statements, story pitches, presentations, etc.

    Ensure content and materials are high-quality, accurate, appropriate in tone/messaging, and support the company's key priorities.

    Manage all facets of modern media content dissemination including formal press release distribution process through current and evolving social media channels when required.

    Lead in advising future standards for external content distribution as new media channels and technologies evolve; design and manage owned media distribution strategies for influencers.

    Participate in the corporate brand governance process as it relates to media including participation in the review of external materials from internal groups (conference presentations, authored pieces, etc.) for brand/message alignment and external resonance.

    Monitor external media visibility and deploy data-driven insights for both risk and opportunity.
    Own media and public relations agency/vendor relationships on behalf of the global enterprise.

    Design a partnership governance strategy that provides a clear framework for Global Business Units and local market ability to access and procure resources in an approved and transparent manner.

    Audit and assess effectiveness of resources on a regular basis.
    Be a strong and effective people manager. Hire, coach, develop, and empower direct reports to be best-in-class communications professionals. Seek synergies and best practices that create efficiency and elevate our communications practices.


    What You Need to Succeed:
    12+ years of communications or public relations experience, preferably with a B2B, publicly traded multinational company.
    5+ years in media relations leadership with international media experience.
    Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations or similar field of study.
    Preferred: 3+ years of people management with experience in coaching, corporate performance reviews, and career pathing.
