    The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

    The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Position Summary


    The Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases is actively seeking a Nurse Practitioner to deliver exceptional patient care and education within an outpatient clinical environment, focusing on various subspecialty programs in gastroenterology.

    This role, operating Monday through Friday, entails coordinating patient care across two primary areas: 1) Outpatient clinics, primarily situated on HIP 8 and West 51st Street, and 2) the Endoscopy Suite.


    Responsibilities encompass providing direct patient care, conducting evaluations and consultations, overseeing pre- and post-endoscopy procedures, interpreting and acting upon blood chemistries and radiologic studies, facilitating discussions with patients and referring physicians, securing insurance authorization for medications and procedures, and scheduling necessary procedures.

    The Nurse Practitioner is entrusted with seeing patients independently, ensuring comprehensive care delivery.

    Responsibilities


    • Conduct preliminary consultations and present appropriate clinical information to attending GI physicians.
    • See patients independently.
    • Communicate effectively with attendings and house staff.
    • Support all aspects of care for the faculty practice patients and collaborate closely with all health care disciplines to ensure continuity of care and efficient and high quality care.
    • Addresses any questions and provides assistance with clinical matters as indicated by the frontline administrative team.
    • Conduct histories and physicals on all assigned patients.
    • Demonstrate professional skills in expediting patient care.
    • Work with insurers to obtain authorization for necessary tests and medications.
    • Network with other clinical disciplines and support staff in expediting pre-procedure evaluations.
    • Conduct Peer to Peer reviews for approval of insurance coverage.
    • Collaborate with Endoscopy Suite nurses and staff in the care and treatment of patients.
    • Assist in coordinating patient transfers from outside hospitals.
    • Assist in getting patients admitted after procedures if required.
    • Ensure that inpatients being discharged have early outpatient follow up visits scheduled.
    • Communicate pre and post-procedure plan with patient, family and referring physician.
    • Provide post procedure follow up care.
    • Support outpatient care for office visits, follow-ups, and procedures.
    • Conduct independent follow-up sessions with patients.
    • Order and follow up on diagnostic/laboratory tests.
    • Provide patient education.
    • Present patient follow up to attending staff and follow prescribed treatment plan.
    • Schedule and coordinate procedures with GI staff and pre-operative testing unit.
    • Collaborate with attending, resident and nursing staff in interpretation of information.
    • Actively participate in educational and research activities of the GI faculty.
    • Contribute to case conferences and performance improvement meetings.
    • Perform additional related duties and responsibilities as needed/assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications


    • Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience;
    • Current New York State NP and RN licenses, and board certification
    • Current DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) certification
    • Must be available to work a full week schedule, Monday-Friday
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications


    • Prior experience in gastroenterology and/or surgery practice
    • Spanish language skills
    Other Requirements


    • Participation in the medical surveillance program
    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
    • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
