    DOE's ability to educate 1.2M students each year enables individuals and families to achieve educational goals through the utilization of information technology, computer hardware, software, and telecommunications. The Division of Instructional & Information Technology (DIIT) plays a crucial role in helping the DOE execute its mission and vision by providing technology that enables equity and excellence, with as few disruptions as possible. DIIT's mission is to ensure staff and students have the technology knowledge, abilities, and resources necessary for an excellent education while empowering collaboration across the organization to deliver technology for the next generation. This role will support the development of new wireless technology to ensure students and administrators receive high speed, secure, and mobile access to the internet and instructional resources. DIIT requires IT professional services to support day-to-day needs for critical business functions and be responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, and implementing data integration solutions that support New York City schools in their day-to-day business.

    High-Level Project Goals

    This position provides support to the development and deployment of new wireless Technology to the schools. It provides core wireless connectivity and advanced mobility capabilities to NYC's 1600 public schools. It is critical for schools to receive high speed, secure, and mobile access to the Internet and to instructional resources. The refresh provides the backbone for the wireless capability that is now critical to support students and teachers.
    • Contribute to the design, configuration, and implementation of new wired and wireless technology solutions.

    • Implement solutions integrating Cisco wireless controllers, Controller-less Architecture and Client

    • Identify and resolve network issues, validate performance and reliability of the wireless infrastructure.

    • Lead migration and implementation plans for the enterprise network involving Cisco and Meraki devices.

    • Perform system upgrades, security remediation and resource optimization as per established policies and standards.

    • Support implementation and deployment of wireless standards including 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11n, and wireless security authentication and encryption protocols including PEAP, EAP-TLS, PSK etc.

    POSITION - Senior Wireless Engineer
    JOB DETAILS
    OUTLINE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
    The Senior Wireless Engineer will provide support to the development and deployment of new wireless technology to the schools. The
    Senior Wireless Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the design, configuration, and implementation of new wired and wireless technology solutions.

    • Support implementation and deployment of wireless standards including 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11n, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11i,
    dot1x and extensions protocols.

    • Support implementation and deployment of wireless security authentication and encryption protocols including PEAP, EAP[1]TLS, WPA, TKIP, AES, PSK, etc.

    • Perform proactive monitoring and maintenance of wireless networks and provide technical support to cross-organizational
    teams.

    • Identify and resolve network issues, validate performance and reliability of the wireless infrastructure.

    • Lead migration and implementation plans for the enterprise network involving Cisco, Aruba, and Meraki devices.

    • Run, generate, and distribute daily status reports of the wireless infrastructure.

    • Perform system upgrades, security remediation and resource optimization as per established policies and standards.

    • Test and implement QOS configurations and troubleshoot QOS issues.

    • Create and maintain network design documents using tools such as MS Word, Excel, and Visio.

    • Support engineering efforts in designing, testing and deployment of wireless access management solutions.

    • Coordinate configuration and testing of various wireless clients including laptops, printers, tablets and other Wi-Fi devices.
    This includes work with wireless adapters utilities, drivers and configuration procedures for Windows and MAC OSX, Apple
    iOS, ChromeOS, Android and other operating systems.

    • Implement solutions integrating Cisco wireless controllers, Controller-less Architecture and Client.

    • Perform as a senior wireless network engineer to troubleshoot and resolve wireless network support and end user wireless
    escalations from Network Operations Center.

    • Assist with wireless site surveys and site RF diagnostics using wireless survey tools like Ekahau or AirMagnet.

    MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    The successful Senior Wireless Engineer candidate must have at least achieved the following level of experience:

    • 5+ years of wireless LAN networking and enterprise Wi-Fi experience, preferably with multiple vendor platforms including
    Meraki, Aruba networks and Cisco.

    • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with wired and wireless LAN implementation and support processes.

    • 5+ years of experience working with wired and wireless client configurations and troubleshooting.

    • 5+ years of experience supporting information technology systems and projects.

    • 5+ years of hands-on experience of installation, configuration and support of TCP/IP networks.

    • 5+ years of experience working with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, etc.

    • 5+ years of experience with switching technologies such as STP, VLANs, Dot1Q, LLDP, etc.

    • 5+ years of experience communicating with management and peers, and reporting project status

    • CISCO networking certification

    PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    • Prior education industry/project experience

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate in a credible and confident manner at all levels in the
    organization, especially on technical issues to a non-technical audience
