- Providing leadership and guidance to less experienced engineers/designers.
- Conducting technical reviews on engineering and design work.
- Performing various engineering calculations for facilities studies, voltage drop, equipment sizing, pole loading, etc.
- Having a full understanding of the project life cycle.
- Designing distribution facilities according to client and NESC standards, including overhead and underground installations, feeder/cable replacements, line extensions, voltage optimizations, distribution automation, fiber optic installations, etc.
- Creating proposals and cost estimates for engineering projects.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Developing overhead and underground distribution work packages using GIS, CAD, Work Management Systems (WMS), and various client systems.
- Handling field work, engineering, design, and drafting for projects of varying complexities.
- Preferably holds a PE license or is actively pursuing one.
- Thorough understanding of overhead and underground construction specifications.
- Solid knowledge of distribution systems and design principles.
- At least 5 years of experience in engineering and designing overhead and underground distribution projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, both verbal and written.
- Ability to adapt and customize techniques, procedures, and criteria as needed.
- Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and construction standards.
- Proficiency in GE SmallWorld, ESRI ArcGIS/ArcFM, Pole Foreman, AutoCAD, Asset Suite, Maximo, Hyperion, etc.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and comfortable in both field and office environments.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college/university, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
- EIT – engineer in training designation is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. A Master's degree in a related field can substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Relevant experience includes working directly with an electric utility or consulting company, performing design engineering, and leading teams.
- The selected candidate will be based out of the Chicago suburb office.
