    General Summary:

    The Fiber Yard Shift Lead is responsible for day to day operations associated with unloading, staging and consuming raw materials as related to paper making processes. A Shift leads responsibilities include but are not limited to, supervising crew members, quality control and assessments, operating Fork-Lifts, Front End Loaders, and/or Bobcat mobile equipment. They must be able to get on & off equipment regularly, understand inventory procedures, some basic computer skills, and be able to communicate clearly with the team and their supervisor. They must be able to read and process scale tickets, possess basic mathematical skills, complete documentation, and be able to operate various types of small to medium sized industrial mobile equipment.

    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Mental Ability – Complete comprehension of Mill production standards and expectations are vital to shift leads responsibilities. They must possess a strong knowledge of paper grades produced and the different types and qualities of raw materials. The Fiber Yard Shift Lead must be able to process scale receipts and prepare daily log reports completely and legibly. They must be able to communicate orally with all personnel in the plant and supervise subordinates. They must be able to operate a calculator for basic mathematical computations. Basic typing skills are essential for basic computer use and/or computerized scanning machine.

    2. Physical Ability – The Fiber Yard Shift Lead must be able to safely operate various types of industrial equipment. Must be able to operate steering controls, hand levers, and/or two foot pedals. There could be occasional climbing up a ladder and lifting items up to 50 pounds. They must have excellent depth perception to maneuver the equipment and raw materials around crowded areas with co-workers nearby. Must be able to frequently get on and off equipment and the use of hand tools, specifically cutting pliers, is required. Must possess basic mechanical skills as pertaining to mobile equipment.

    3. Safety – It is plant policy to work in a safe manner. All Fiber Yard Shift Leads must possess a strong attitude toward safety. The Shift Lead will help promote a safe working environment by establishing housekeeping expectations, following lock-out / tag-out procedures, recognizing fire hazards, ensuring safe operation of industrial equipment and following all plant and department safety rules.

    3. Ability to communicate and comprehend directives.

    4. Ability to effectively lead and supervise subordinates to achieve production standards.

    5. Ability to work well with others.

    6. Ability to work flexible hours.

    7. Must be prompt, courteous and respectful.

    8. Ability to constantly observe immediate area for hazards and resolve or eliminate potential hazards.

    9. Must possess strong problem solving skills.
