    Description

    Working under the policy setting direction of the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, this role provides strategic legal advice and counsel to critical business areas within the Company.

    The Associate General Counsel will serve as the primary legal contact for business, operational and regulatory matters for our growing insurance business, build strong relationships with key business partners and stakeholders, provide thought leadership and legal expertise to the Company, and bring leadership and mentoring to other members of the Legal & Compliance team.

    This role may oversee a team of attorneys.


    While Sentry operates from a hybrid schedule, the candidate for this role must be willing to relocate to the Stevens Point, WI area.

    This position is not eligible for a remote schedule or to work from an alternate office location.

    What You'll Do
    As an

    Associate General Counsel,



    you will:


    Meet regularly with the Company's General Counsel to coordinate overall approach of Legal Department in the provision of services to the Company and its business units.

    May supervise a staff of attorneys (home office and field) who provide legal services, counsel and advice regarding business matters associated with Company operations.

    Represent the Company, or select and supervise outside counsel to represent the Company, in contested matters arising in courts, in administrative agencies and before regulatory bodies across the U.S.

    and in other counties in which the Company has interests.
    Oversee the completion of legal projects including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work.

    Provide legal counsel and advice to the Company in all legal matters, as well as in areas of specialized legal expertise, on issues having a significant impact on the Company.

    Administer human resource-related activities including timely performance and salary reviews and ensure all subordinates adhere to human resources policies and practices.

    Select, develop, motivate and recognize staff.

    Additionally,

    you will:

    Control expenses to contribute to the overall goals of the department.

    Review and analyze enacted and proposed state and federal laws and regulations that affect the Company, and advise of the implication of such laws, regulations, and draft legislation.

    Research and analyze various legal issues and render an opinion.
    Perform other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.

    What it Takes
    10+ years of in-house experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
    Strong academic background and a Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
    Current license in good standing to practice law.
    Insurance regulatory experience strongly preferred.
    General insurance knowledge including industry operations, standards, policies and practices.
    Excellent human relations and communication skills.
    Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal, coaching and management skills.
    Ability to handle ambiguity, lead with a positive attitude, and contribute to a positive culture.
