    Associate Dean for Academic Engagement - Baltimore, United States - InsideHigherEd

    Description

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Contribute to the Libraries' executive group for strategic planning, resource development, policy, and collaborative program development.
    • Advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives of Cook Library and encourage all reports to be committed to these initiatives.
    • Develop and sustain relationships with academic leadership to inform Libraries' program development and enable partnerships.
    • With Associate and Assistant University Librarians and department heads, contribute to the development of policies and programs that enable an exceptional and coherent user experience, recognizing diverse needs.
    • Identify and pursue fundraising and grant proposal opportunities for the Library.
    • Serve as Acting Dean in absence of Dean of University Libraries.

    Lead and Administer Public-Facing Service Units

    • Provide leadership in developing, implementing, evaluating, and promoting research, instruction, access services programs.
    • Responsible for research, instruction, reference, circulation, reserves, information desk, and stacks.
    • Promote seamless access to information services.
    • Create a unified research, instruction, and public services environment.
    • Foster a service-oriented philosophy and promote user-centered services and resources.
    • Ensure library resources and services are provided equally to on-site and remote users.
    • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate faculty librarians and staff; ensure effective training and accountability.
    • Participate in development and implementation of assessment activities.
    • Develop and document effective policies, procedures, and standards of services.
    • Ensure resources and services are accurately represented on the library website.
    • Participate in strategic planning, program development, budget development, and policy development for the library.
    • Participate in analysis of space utilization to ensure technologies, facilities, and staffing meet research and learning needs.
    • Maintain knowledge of national developments and trends.
    • Work as a member of relevant teams and bring expertise in research, instruction, and access services.

    Integrate Student Success Initiatives into all Library Public Services

    • Provide leadership for the development and continuation of service models for the Library Academic Commons.
    • Supervise, mentor and evaluate the Student Success Librarian.
    • Facilitate connections amongst public services units to support student success initiatives.
    • Oversee assessment efforts related to student success.

    Facilities, Safety and Security

    • Oversee the library building physical facility.
    • Work closely with departments to ensure safe, healthy, comfortable facilities.
    • Participate in discussion for major facilities projects.
    • Participate in planning for building and space modifications.
    • Ensure operation of library under adverse weather conditions.
    • Act as the library's liaison to relevant departments and services.
    • Serve as library representative on related university committees.

    Scholarly Research, Publications, Creative Works and Professional Leadership

    • Conduct relevant scholarly research and disseminate findings.
    • Develop and deliver presentations related to academic libraries and higher education.
    • Participate in professional associations and local, state, and regional library initiatives.
    • Demonstrate commitment to professional development.

    Library and University Service

    • Attend and represent the library at Associate Deans meetings.
    • Contribute to library and university initiatives such as outreach, marketing, assessment, diversity, and curriculum.
    • Participate in department, library, and university activities.
    • Serve on library, university, and University System of Maryland committees.

    Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent.
    • Five years of progressively responsible experience in libraries.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Strong positive interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the role of academic libraries in supporting teaching, learning, and research needs.
    • Excellent organizational, time and project management skills.
    • Ability to effectively supervise, evaluate, motivate, and mentor library faculty and staff.
    • Flexibility in a changing technological and educational environment.
