About Duha Awad:
Duha I Awad is a highly accomplished individual with a strong educational background in Psychology and Neuroscience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Neuroscience, and has already gained over a year and a half of valuable research experience. During her academic career, Duha has had the opportunity to work with some of the top institutions in the field, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland Baltimore.
In addition to her impressive work experience, Duha has recently made significant contributions to the scientific community by submitting a paper to the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. Overall, Duha is a highly talented and driven individual who is sure to continue making waves in the scientific community for years to come.

- Preformed manual segmentation and masking of Multiple Sclerosis lesions on7T MRI images using different software.
- Used machine learning techniques for an automated quantification of gray matter lesions, white matter lesions, and paramagnetic rim lesions on 7T MRI images.
- Partnered with five multiple sclerosis sites to enhance the automated quantification and to create publicly available data and training manuals for robust and generalizable 7T MRI multiple sclerosis images.
Summer Research Intern — Neural Systems Analysis Laboratory Johns Hopkins University | Baltimore, MD
- Used signal processing and machine learning to detect epileptic seizures from raw EEG data.
- Tested single and combined novel features for better epilepsy detection.
- Explored reading raw EEG data from Johns Hopkins Medical Institute.
- Developed an EEG artifacts detector to enhance epileptic seizure performance.
Summer Research Intern – Biochemical Pathology Laboratory National Institutes of Health | Bethesda, MD
- Validated Next-Gen RNA-Seq data on novel genes by which TSP-1 regulates splicing of MYC-N.
- Tested multi receptors for TSP-1 such as Gabapentin.
- Explored the effects of TSP-1 on 42 novel genes.
