    GHHI's Maryland Programs Department has a proven track record of delivering the highest quality of support, education, and advocacy for families most vulnerable to and effected by unhealthy and energy inefficient housing. The Environmental Health Educator - Prince George's County (BILINGUAL) position will work primarily with low income families with young children with asthma who need asthma, healthy homes and energy efficiency services by providing prevention education, helping families to access GHHI's prevention resources, assisting clients in accessing other housing services programs, and in developing client action plans to prevent asthma episodes, lead poisoning and household injuries. The Environmental Health Educator conducts community trainings and home visits with families primarily in Prince George's County and throughout the Metro region. GHHI believes that direct one-on-one education and home prevention education training coupled with coordinated housing intervention services is the most effective way to empower and support families who are addressing issues such as asthma triggers, lead hazards, household injury risks and high energy costs.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Educate, assist, and advocate for families facing asthma, lead and other environmental health hazards in their homes in order to help those families achieve safe and stable housing;
    • Perform approximately 20 home visits per month in Prince George's County to provide one on one bilingual English and Spanish resident education sessions on asthma and lead poisoning prevention and covering methods to improve and maintain the health, safety and energy efficiency of clients' homes;
    • Prepare individual client assessments and client action plans and home maintenance plans to reduce asthma episodes, lead poisoning and household injury;
    • Assist tenants to send written Notices of Defect to their rental property owner for the repair of hazards, coordinating enforcement actions with City and State agencies, and facilitating client resource referrals;
    • Provide case management support to client families to support housing stability and energy security, and improved health, educational and social outcome;
    • Serve as a liaison between tenant and homeowner families and appropriate agencies when seeking services including providing application assistance;
    • Where the best option for a lead-affected family is to relocate from the property, work with the family to help facilitate that move to lead safe housing and coordinate resources including possible relocation assistance grant applications where that funding exists.
    • Report data in GHHI's Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) Client Database in compliance with standards and protocols;
    • Develop and monitor annual work plan to identify key program goals, objectives and benchmarks;
    • Regularly update and enhance GHHI's resident education curriculum and training materials on asthma, healthy homes, energy efficiency and other home-based environmental health issues using the most up to date environmental research and knowledge;
    • Conduct bilingual GHHI trainings to health and housing professionals, parents, community based organizations, government agencies, property owners, and community residents;
    • Provide outreach to at-risk communities through representation at meetings, health fairs, and other events that reach at-risk audiences and stakeholders;
    • Build and foster established and new community and stakeholder partnerships to promote prevention education and connect GHHI related services to targeted audiences, providers and stakeholders;
    • Participate in weekly and other team meetings as appropriate;
    • Support broad mission and policy efforts and initiatives of GHHI;
    • Maintain responsibility for internal weekly project reporting;
    • Assist the Vice President of Maryland Program and program managers in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to funding agencies;
    • Provide research, analysis and recommendations on policy and program best practices;
    • Other duties as assigned related to organizational mission and programs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in public health, environmental science, social work, nursing, or relevant field from an accredited college or university;
    • Demonstrated experience in conducting home visiting services;
    • Experience developing client case plans;
    • Excellent written and oral presentation skills;
    • A self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills;
    • Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment, prioritize tasks, and follow projects to completion on schedule to achieve results for clients;
    • Attention to detail;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data collection;
    • Knowledge of HIPPA regulations and compliance;
    • Ability to work with diverse populations;
    • Flexibility, initiative, and a collaborative spirit;
    • Passionate, mission-driven professional with a strong work ethic;
    • Desire to work in a team environment to produce impact in the lives of low income children, families and seniors.

    POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS


    • Must be fully bilingual in Spanish and English language proficiency;


    • This position will be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. The incumbent must maintain ready access to a motor vehicle, possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license in the State of Maryland, and required auto insurance.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS (not required)


    • Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C);


    • Community Health Worker certification.
