    Job Description:

    The Special Care Nursery (SCN) is a twelve-bed level IIB unit that provides specialized care for newborns at high risk, either due to premature birth or medical complications. Patients in the SCN include infants born at Beverly Hospital and those transferred from tertiary care facilities.

    The SCN team, comprised of Registered Nurses and Board Certified Neonatologists, delivers care to infants of 32 weeks gestation or more. The care includes close monitoring, cardiorespiratory assessment, oxygen therapy, IV medication and hydration, feeding support, and other essential treatments. For infants born before 32 weeks, the nursing staff will collaborate with the medical team to stabilize and arrange transport to the appropriate facility.

    As a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Special Care Nursery, your primary responsibilities will include:

    • Conducting assessments, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient progress, and assessing the effectiveness of therapies
    • Collaborating with physicians and healthcare professionals to devise optimal patient care plans
    • Providing support and education to patients and their families to facilitate the best possible outcomes
    • Performing venipuncture and inserting intravenous catheters as necessary

    Qualifications:

    • Preferably a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification mandatory
    • New hires with SCN experience must possess an active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) card. Those without relevant experience must obtain NRP certification within 6 months of employment
    • Prior experience in high-risk neonatal care is advantageous
