Robert Long is a musician - pianist, choral conductor, organist - who lives in the State College area. Robert has served as Director of Music for many years, and he has taught college-level courses throughout his career. Robert is a collaborative pianist (and organist) who performs with singers, choirs, and instrumentalists.
Experience
Robert Long is a conductor, pianist, and tenor. Mr. Long is co-founder and Music Director for the Academy of Sacred Music, which sponsors Seraphim, a professional chamber choir. Seraphim presented the NYC premiere of Magnificat by composer Nancy Galbraith as part of the concert series in St. Paul’s Chapel, Columbia University. The Academy also sponsors an annual summer Choral Institute in central Pennsylvania.
He served as Music Director and Conductor of Ars Musica Chorale, based in Bergen County, New Jersey for ten years. Ars Musica performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Greenwich Village Orchestra and sang at Carnegie Hall for Eve Queler’s 100th performance with the Opera Orchestra of New York.
Mr. Long previously served as Director of Music and Choir Master at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, New York, where he conducted the Cathedral Choir and worked with many world-renowned guest artists, including Renée Fleming, Ruth Ann Swenson, Heidi Grant Murphy, Lauren Flanigan, and The American Boychoir. He also conducted the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Chamber Orchestra, comprised of musicians from New York’s leading orchestras, including the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
As pianist and vocal coach, Robert Long has performed as accompanist in recital at Weill Recital Hall-Carnegie Hall and on the Noonday Series at Trinity Church in New York. He currently serves as Director of Music Ministries and organist for Corpus Christi Parish in Chatham, N.J.
