Nyombi Morris

I am a Ugandan Climate Activist and the founder of Earth Volunteers, a non-profit organization.

I became interested in activism because climate change-induced flooding had a significant detrimental impact on my family. My parents' source of income was disrupted in 2009, forcing our family to relocate.

In August 2019, I decided to join Fridays for Future completely after discovering that the movement was made up of passionate young people around my age, I couldn't miss out! Once I joined a lot of things were revealed to me. I discovered that there was a lot of misinformation concerning our natural resources, most notably trees. That year, many of our forests were under attack by moneymakers in the wood business.

When I joined, I started by challenging world leaders, my government, policymakers, and polluters to take climate change more seriously. I discourage polluters through policy development. 

My story is part of the key strategy which I have been using, When I started telling my stories, many mainstream media around the globe started reaching out to me. I have been featured on the BBC, CBC, CNN, The Verge, Global Citizens, Reuters, Wion, and Earth.org. Forbes Africa, TIME Magazine, and many Others.

Fridays For Future MAP at Global since July 2020

MAPA stands for the most affected people and areas. My primary role at MAP is to analyze and assess the impact of current policies on climate change, climate justice, and sustainability and to propose changes and improvements to align with the objectives of all young activists in the global south because that is who we are.

The second role involves me working with other international environmental organizations to share best practices in areas like workshop planning and funding whenever climate change conferences are coming up.

Earth Volunteers at Uganda Since June 2020

After Twitter suspended my account in June 2020 because I advocated for trees, I formed Earth Volunteers, a non-profit organization to unite young people passionate about volunteering.

Since its founding, we have assisted in planning and planting more than 50,200 trees across 18 Ugandan forest reserves and have visited more than 23 schools as part of our climate education project, which involves telling high school and elementary school students about the effects of climate change and offering them solutions so they can start taking action.
