- Assist in the implementation of the City's ten water conservation BMPs. Ensure that programs and activities are implemented within city and state policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Assist with the Youth Education Program by leading water- and energy-education presentations for schools and youth groups.
- Provides primary support for four BMPs, including the Youth Conservation Education program, "Green-Living" class series, Glendale Xeriscape Demonstration Garden, and Glendale Water Efficiency Program for city facilities and commercial, industrial, and institutional customers.
- Help with water waste investigations by conducting site visits, mailing educational resources, and maintaining documentation.
- Assist with the Green-Living class series by marketing the series, staffing classes, and entering data from class surveys.
- Assist with developing landscape water budgets for city facilities and parks, homeowner associations, and commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
- Staff community outreach events and provide educational resources for the public.
- Assist with maintaining the four-acre Glendale Xeriscape (low-water-use) Demonstration Garden, including updating the garden's plant and tool inventory, working with garden volunteers, and preparing the garden for tours and special events.
- Conduct research and prepare reports for assigned programs.
- Develop public outreach materials that promote conservation and sustainability.
- Respond to public inquiries from citizens for information on conservation and sustainable living programs.
- Maintain databases and records to analyze, prepare, and present data in written and oral presentations. Assist with monitoring and evaluating the success of the conservation programs.
- Stay current on technologies and trends on water and energy conservation and sustainability by attending trainings, statewide water conservation information share meetings, and conferences.

The Role:The Temporary Water Conservation Assistant is responsible for supporting implementation of the City's ten water conservation Best Management Practices (BMPs). Provides primary support for four BMPs, including the Youth Conservation Education program, "Green-Living" class series, Glendale Xeriscape Demonstration Garden, and Glendale Water Efficiency Program for commercial, industrial, and institutional customers.
Salary and Schedule:This is a temporary position that is funded for a period of 12 months* and pays $21.00 per hour.
This position has flexible hours and can work between 20-29 hours per week.* Contract employees are considered "at-will" and employment may be terminated by Glendale for any reason or for no reason and without cause.
Retirement:This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.29%.
Essential Functions
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Education, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field and one year of experience in environmental education, public administration, or in any field that specializes in the management of natural resources.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of:
Water and energy conservation best management practices, especially in a desert environment
Research methodology, analysis and interpretation, and database development and maintenance
Methods of public information and education, outreach, and marketing
Landscape and irrigation standards and practices related to water conservation
Ability to:
Speak effectively in public
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written
Work cooperatively with other departments, outside agencies, and the general public
Operate a computer with skills in the following software applications: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. GIS experience preferred, but not required.

Ability to occasionally perform lifting up to 25 pounds; move boxes of literature, audio-visual equipment, display boards, and set-up of folding tables and chairs for workshops and events.
